I thought you guys might be interested in this:

1mb video (http://www.geocities.com/ae111bz20v/taupolapbudgettyres.MPG)

This is from a recent track day where I finished off my track tryes (6 of them!) so had a try on some Yokohama S306 budget tyres - made for an interesting drive - lots of tyre squeal and about 3 sec a lap slower - quite a lot considering its a 1.4km track.

Its from a geocities site so it might not work.

Cheers

It works for me, using 'save as'.

Major tyre squeal - my wife shouts upstairs "Why can I hear a baby crying", I reply, "It's not a baby crying, it some random guy's tyres!" [LOL]

You need some Michelin clio cup slicks -- wherever they may come from.

If not try this page and go from there

I've got some Yoko A032Rs coming but they are taking forever!

What do you guys think the next upgrade should be? Eibach ARBs or a LSD?

ARB's

ARB's

Why? (not picking - just interested!)

They make Golf's handle.

Last year i drove Dex's car to Demon Tweeks. At the time he had old knackered Boge suspension on it and Eibach ARB's. And i had my 8v with £700 worth of coilovers, better tyres and no ARB's. His handled as good as mine!

Ta very much [:D] Anti Roll Bars
http://www.eibach.de

Anti-Roll-Kit (Sports Stabilizer Bars)

The Eibach Anti-Roll-Kit allows further refinement of the driving properties of your vehicle. Installation of the Anti-Roll-Kit reduces lateral rolling of the body, thus enhancing the sporty driving behavior in combination with Eibach suspension components. This additional stability provides even more driving pleasure under all conditions.
The Anti-Roll-Kit is optimally tuned to the Pro-Kit and adjusted fully compatible to Sportline. It may, however, also be combined with original equipment springs in the event, that a lowering of the vehicle is not desired.

Product properties:

reduction of body roll when driving in curves and during fast changes of direction

unimpaired spring comfort at bilateral spring deflection

decreasing the load differences between the wheels inside and outside the curve (dynamic load shift)

impacting the under- or over-steering tendency positively (auto-steering behavior)

and to quote tub-sport.com;

The most recent addition to the Golf is a set of 22/25 Eibach anti-Roll bars... debatably the best handling mod you can do to the MK2. The eibachs make the car a lot more controllable on the edge, giving it a really nice feel and finally eliminating that horrible FWD understeer. The car is far more controlable on the throttle.. allowing for some fun controlled slides.. wet or dry! It also gives an amazing turn-in and you never stop smiling after they are fitted!

Thanks, I have asked the guys that set up my car to look into it [;)]

GVK

As the others have said SirB - They make a lot of difference to the handling of a Golf 2 without needing stiff springs [;)]

They make the car turn in sharper and will feel a lot more stable in fast corners (S-X) [;)]

Thanks Gary, but I've already got the Bilstein NS shocks & springs so maybe there won't be that much of an improvement?

GVK
18th March 04, 18:58
You'd maybe not think so, but the anti-roll bars 'compliment' the suspension.

ARBs make a hell of a difference, even to a car with a good suspension kit [:)] When I drove Job's Golf (no ARBs) around Spa, could tell the difference between that and mine with them instantly.

You can get a car without ARBs to handle as well but it means using a lot stiffer springs ( not ideal for the bumpy NS)[;)] What do Ring-Racing think about them?

Karl
19th March 04, 07:33
I've sent them the details, they're looking into it, I'll let you know when they get back to me.

GVK

Okey doke [;)] I've had them on the last two Golfs, and it would be one of the first things I'd recommend anyone to do when modifying a Golf for fast road/track use, the Eibach anti-roll bars are quite conservative (22/25mm), you can get stiffer ones such as Neuspeed 25mm front and a 28mm adjustable rear.

*edit* a second I checked said this;

*Yawn, stretch, ahhhh*
Sorry, bit tired after more or less non stop lapping of the Nordschleife yesterday from 10 until 4 o'clock, hope I'm awake enough for this afternoons session [LOL]

Anyway, Ring Racings verdict on the ARB things, they will improve the handling in tight corners but make the car more skittish in the faster sections, ie. Schwedenkreuz, Flugplatz, Fuchsröhre, Pflanzgarten! Those certainly ain't places where I want the car to be more skittish [:s]

I have no problems with mine in those places, but then I'm about 40-50 secs a lap slower [LOL]
