ive owned my golf cab 92, 1.8, for a couple months now, although, i spotted an FTO on a forecourt the other day and since then, i have fallen in love with them.

so, im now looking for a yellow FTO GPX 2.0l 24v V6 :D, they are actualy MUCH cheaper than you would expect them to be, i can pritty much swap it for my current car, and mayby throw in a couple hundred quid for good measure...

although, insurance = pain.. so, should i keep my golf for a little longer, and find an fto later, or go and hug a nice shiney FTO..

cant make up my mind!

a bit of a difficult question for us to answer really. Do you want an FTO or your current Golf cab?

When you say the insurance is a pain, how much of a pain? If it's stupid money then I wouldn't bother I don't see the point in skinting yourself just to pay for insurance.

well

I like my Golf CAB, its nice, full body kit, and i love the open top :D (well, when the suns out, BLOODY RAIN [:s] )

But, FTO for a similar price, has like, many more in car toys ;)

Insurance, well, i havent been driving long :P 8 weeks or so, 1st car was the cat15 convertable, and i was quoted £3000 on insurance fully comp, after lots of shopping around, i got it down to £600 fully comp, so now im thinking about the FTO, insurance is around £1500 - £2000 fully comp.

CANT MAKE UP MIND! :/

I wanted an FTO nto to long ago, but decided to stick with the MK3 for a while longer!!!

In my opinion the FTO styling ain't the best (still nice though)...I much prefer the MK2 MR2 T-BAr...hmm!!!

Or ofcourse a mazda RX-7, and toyota celica MK2 ( not current, but one before it)

do yourself a favor, go pick up a copy of EVO and turn to 'the knowledge' near the back. Goto the small coupes bit, and look up the FTO. Then go and buy one.

Had one on a ramp next to my car getting our exhausts done, and the FTO was newer than my 1996 car, but had about 5 times as much rust on the underbody/all over the suspension was rusting/generally looked like it was about to fall to pieces.

I heard somewhere that jap imports arent protected against the wet salty roads over here, not sure what it was but they rust easy. Anyone confirm this?

Is it just me or does there seem to be a bit of a exodus from golfs on this forum lately?

I dont mind the looks of them, but dont get blinded by the fact its a V6, its only a 2.0 as you said.

They're not fast either.

I whooped one over a 1/4 mile recently in the mk2, the look the guys face was priceless!

they are not under sealed from the factory... thats why they rust

so can you seal them yourself, or is it a lot of hassel etc?

im not really worried about how fast, i love the way they look, for the price

As above, Jap cars don't come under sealed as they generally get scraped after 5 years (or sent over here via the middle east) most good importers will underseal the buggers as they come off the ship, but there are plently of hounds about. as with all Jap imports a proper inspection is vital as the milage will almost certainly be clocked and experts say 20% are nicked.

You could allways buy a UK one but they're loads of money

Oh yeah, as far as I know all FTO's come with a 2.0 24v V6 but many diffent spec's and power outputs, that why you see so many owners with faces like a slapped **** at the rolling road.
