View Full Version : JBS RR with Cupranet yesterday

Hi
We had a cupranet RR at JBS in Chesterfield yesterday - well run and good set up.
Anyhow, some interesting figs from the big turbo boys Bill, Wilco etc (who I am sure will put their own figs up) but my old-fashioned valver wasnot too shabby - and sounded the dogs ! [:Y:]
215.2hp (193 ATW) at 7250
170ftlb from 5000-6250 (>150ftlb 4000-7500)
This has been built as a mid range engine and performs as such (but has a 8.5K redline as a bonus). Bigger TB's will yield more power - dyno figs on a similar spec engine show 17hp gains on going to 48's with no other mods. Guess whats next....(along with a stronger gearbox)
Cheers
Rob
ps - as an aside - this engine gave 238hp on an engine dyno so its seems there is a disconnect between the two somewhere - of course once in a car it has a different exhaust etc but seems quite a bit different.
All RR graphs will be posted up on cupranet very soon - will post link as sson as comes available

well done mate, be interesting to see the graphs.
was it dropping off at 7250?
Dropped approx. 5hp to 8K [:D] - RR stopped aquiring at 8K (dunno why) even though car clearly went to 8.5K limiter
Goes like stink - driver now the weak link !
Cheers

are JBS good at RR tuning then? they are quite close to me and i fancy a good set up on my mk2 16v.
any of the chesterfield lot used 'em for a RR tune rather than a group RR day?

And the cams will remanin secret...?
LOL. They are from Cat and are billet - see Mr Brockbank for details but I'm not promising mine are out of the catologue
This is the secret bit - and even if I did tell you they would probably not work on most motors, these only work well with rather higher than normal CR's
Carn't tell you everything can I [:D]

Dont know if JBS technically do RR tuning - as far as I know only Stealth 'RR tune' 16 valvers with stock managements
Good to go there for a RR day though

I didn't imagine for a second that you could simply buy those cams and get those results - nearly all of us know thats not true of any combination! [;)] [LOL] [LOL]
Fantastic figures though mate... that spread of torque is amazing. What part of the spec sheet contibutes to giving it that kind of torque? Is it to do with the high CR?

Ickle Ibiza running with Aquamist on and off... Guess whic plot is which?[:D] Nice little gain for squirting in some water..
Figures are at the wheels not flywheel on my plot at JBS on sunday with RobT's motor.. which was so loud!!! Woohoo.. valvers rock! (I so miss the old Jetta)
JBS's dyno does 'lag' rapidly accelerating engines which is why the runs terminate before the engines do.. by approx 500rpm.. Not sure why, software thing.
On the day, 210 Leon Cupra-R read 210bhp so it pretty much read what you would guess to be realistic figures.

Does this mean that all the figs are offset by 500rpm from reality ?

Yep.. think thats what he said.. Same for mine.. If lagged then under reading perhaps..? OK for slow accelerating engines..?

Vince was saying today, the prob with JBS new rollers is that they can't vary the load as he can with the old Ram12 , he has full control over the load where as their's only has settings for small, medium, large powered engines?
We were chatting about rr's and he was saying the new ones don't have the 'control' that the old one does, useful for mapping and the like.
Just what he said today.

Piper Dynamometers (http://www.piperdynamometers.com/rolling.htm)
are what James has..
Has load and transition settings from inertia to braked.. but not like a Sun RR
