Ferodo DS2500....
I've used Pagid fast road pads for the last couple of years but wondering whether to try something different, I was going to try some Hawk race pads but don't like the idea of them covering the car with rusty particles
Anyone used all the above pads, how did you find them (on track preferably) [;)]
Hawk do some street pads too, anyone tried them?

I've used EBC V4 compound and Pagid FR on plain discs. Pagid were better but the Greens aren't as terrible as some think. Best buy Pagid over Greenstuff though.

I have used the EBC V4 and pagids i found the EBC to give better breaking performance (only slighty) under lots of load. But the Pagids last so long and cost less money i am sticking to them now

I had EBC greens a few years back, when i used the volvo callipers.
Fitted a new set before a day at Combe and after 6 sessions there was just the back plates left [:o] . They may have changed the compund since but i will never use them again.
I would try the DS 2500 or stick with the Padgids m8.

I've been looking around on the net but can't find many places listing prices for the DS2500
Are these new DS performance pads the same thing???

Ring them on this number G they are very helpful, you can buy from them as well.

Think Ray said they are about £55 for the MkI from DT.

think your right about the greenstuff's, as i used them a couple of years ago and they were awful...but everyone seems to like them now!

Bill wore a set of new EBC greenstuff out in a single session at Combe in his Jetta, that put me off them.
Barny seems to like them for track use.

i had ebc green stuff on the mk2 at first
they lasted about 10,000 miles including the donny track day, never managed to fade them, and i was braking fairly hard.
no got pagids on, they are *maybe* not quite as good, but they are still **** hot.
had mintex 1144 on an old car - they needed a bit of heat to work well, but were awesome, also had DS2000, they are the b*****ks.

didn't get on well with the V3 ebc pads, they didn't work quick enough for me,they needed a bit of heat in them before they'd work.V4 is supposed to be better.
using pagids at the mo and quite happy with em.
ebc discs are pretty damn good though but why call them"turbo groove".don't want to be heard ordering them [:P]

I have recently put a set of DS2500's in the pickle and at Cadwell (a very hard braking circuit) they were ace - not worn too bad either and dust levels were very acceptable.
Got mine from Tweeks

Only have experience of Mintex, non road pads.
They are the bollox!
Just make sure your belt/harness is tight!

Best pads I've ever used were Mintex M1155s .. totally transformed the braking on my Impreza. They are listed as a 'non-road' fitment by Mintex, but I found them to performed faultlessly from cold.

Looks like I won't be getting the DS2500 , I'm not paying £80 for brake pads [:o]

The GF has Mintex 1144 on her Mondeo V6 braked Puma and I'm really impressed with them. I've got Pagid at the moment on the mk2 and can't really complain but after driving the puma fairly quickly on twisty stuff would like to try the 1144s on the track. The only downside is that they are very "dirty" pads.

Greenstuffs were poo when I tried them, I'll be sticking with Pagid Fast roads, can't beat them for the money.

Greenstuffs were rubbish when i used them, like having cork for brakes.
Pagids are good, kev recently ran some ds3000 and im debating these or the 2500's for trackday fun (altho they are £70+ they are better than pagid fr's allegedly?)
Greenstuffs still poo tho [xx(]

I've had the Hawk blue 9102 race pads recommended to me by Keith Maddock,They use them on the Ringers C Car, only downside is the corrosive dust they give off [:N:]
He says unlike regular race pads they don't need much warming up and the pedal is rock hard [:Y:] Might give RallyDesign a ring and see what they cost.

You coud try coating your rims in a thin layer of vaseline to catch it up? Personally, not tried this but assured it does a decent job.

If anyone sees Gary applying vaseline to his rim at Donny then don't jump to conclusions.... [xx(]

From a road user point of view, i have found that the pagid fp + grooved discs are not that much better than standard VAG pads + discs. The VAG's may suffer from fading, but then only when you have been pushing hard... and i mean hard. The only thing with the pagids + discs fitted to my mk3 8v is that they do tend to squeak under normal, everyday driving.

Ordered the Hawks from RallyDesign £42+vat for the blue 9012 compound.
BLUE 9012 Medium/High torque brake compound. Low pad and rotor wear with good brake modulation. 250F - 1000F
Been Googling, some say they eat discs, some say they don't.
Seems that you can get bad disc wear if you use them on the road when they're not up to temperature.
Apparently they come pre-burnished but there is a recommended bedding in procedure. [:s]
I'm not that bothered about the dust, the wheels only cost £50 [:P]
Will see what they're like at Donny.

Fitted the HAWK blue 9012 race pads (HB190.600 Blue mk2 16v fitment) at lunch so I can bed them in before Sunday
Talk about bite! - Part of the bedding in procedure says "increase speed to simulate race conditions"[:P]
Medium force braking whilst bedding the pads in from 70mph had the wheels locking [:o] (it is wet out there)
They squeal a bit on light applications and I think the discs will last 5 minutes buut feck me they work well. [:Y:]
I'd say that medium pedal effort gets the same braking force as braking hard with Pagid fast roads..lol .. I'll be accelerating again to reach the corners at Donny [:o)] [:o)]

do they do any other compounds?
GVK
29th October 03, 22:49
Yep, they do the HPS for street use, HPS + for street/track then the blues which I have.
Can also get blacks and the HT compound which are even harder than the blues.

whats the cold braking like?
GVK
30th October 03, 12:55
They work ok when cold but need 2-3 hard applications to get the best out of them, I'll call them bedded in now, there was a rusty trail all the way along both sides of the car and the wheels have 'nice' grey film on them [:o]
I was warned about this anyway, so it's no suprise.
I've put the Pagids back in now, and will fit the Hawks Sunday morning at Donny. [:P]
Deffo a track only pad [:Y:]

Yep.. I dispise EBC's on Dubs...
Also wore out soem Greens on the Ibiza in 1K miles only... The first 1K on the car... running it in FFS!
Crappy things.
Equally crappy, well worse IMHO, are Polymatrix E pads for Wilwoods. sh*te!
Pads I like:- Pagid FR series, Galfer (Std Brembo fitment), Carbon Metallic (Performance Friction).
Jury is out on the new DS2500's I am running on the Wilwood on the beezer currently. Ok ish but not awesome like carbon metallics were on brembos. got some more DS2500's and some DS3000's to try. Warped Wilwood disks at Cadwell tho! poxy brakes.

I suppose with the power you're running Bill, you'll have a hard job with the brakes whatever pads you have [:^(]
Are the Wilwoods wider discs than the Brembos?

310x32's compared to 305x28 but the important bit is they're ally bell mounted rotors and run cooler... But not as cool as they need to it seems.
Brembos worked a lot better than these do, but produced shed loads of heat... which is not good for longevity.
Ally bells for Brembo's is next.
Had enough of Wilwoods.

Bill,
I've still got the standard pads you sold me with the Brembo kit. I checked them the other day and was surprised how much pad was left even after a trip to the ring, track days etc. I was expecting to have to order some more aswell. [:s]
Are these pads really that good or am i not using them properly?
Reminds me of my last trip to Combe, cleaning the brake dust off my wheels before the AA man turned up [:D] They were so black [8D]

Found this info on the Hawks ...
Tech Note
Hawk Brake Pads................
We're somewhat perplexed by some of the comments we read occasionally on various Internet mailing lists and digests about how nasty and destructive Hawk pads are.
We want to be absolutely clear about something -- the majority of Hawk products are RACING pads. They do exactly and precisely what they were designed to do -- stop your car as quickly, reliably, and safely as possible over and over again. They may not be best suited for your concourse queen. But they are the most effective friction product you can find for your high performance street or RACE car.
That being said, we're not turning a blind eye to the fact that performance car owners like to drive a car -- even a race car -- that looks as good as it performs. Appearance is important to us, too, and we've not found Hawk products to be excessively harsh to the finish of wheels or automotive paint. Regular cleaning with Simple Green® and water, with light brushing if necessary, will almost always remove any brake dust residue.
From our experience, the only time the dust can become a problem is if it gets wet and is allowed to dry before it is washed off. Then it can become difficult to remove. Just as with bug stains or road tar, preventative measures like regular waxing and polishing can be very helpful in preventing unpleasant damage to your wheels' finish.
Some Hawk compounds are better than others when it comes to dust, so if dusting is a great concern to you, be sure to ask your TRI-POINT Engineering technician which Hawk compound will serve your needs best.

micky have a look in the motorsport section at the mallory park day that ian B is organising... that's feb 28th!
Reviving this old thread, can all those who use their cars on track state the pads they use, which size brakes they have and anything else you want to mention.. ta! [:)]
Front. Wilwood Superlight calipers with 308x32mm bell-mounted disks. Currently Ferodo DS2500 pads - very nice. Previous Wilwood Polymatrix D's - ok, not as good as 2500's. Previous Hawk Blacks - awesome but wore disks out very quick and covered car in rust, stopped using as couldn't get rust off other than with kitchen hob cleaner. Note with superlights - these are not dust sealed and can get crappy and pistons stick - thus I replace piston seals every year (about £20) and polish up std stainless pistons with a bit of chrome cleaner. Also a bit of brake cleaner liberally squirted on pistons every trackday to clean them helps a treat - and it smells great !
Rear. Stock rotors with pagid stock pads (not fast road ones).
Halfords 5.1 fluid changed couple times a year.
TAS rear circuit bias valve. 23mm master cylinder. Aeroquipped front, new std rubber hoses rear.
Works fine for me and have never experienced brake fade - at cadwell my eyes went funny on one occasion but brakes kept on working.
Cheers
Rob
i think wilwood do proper road spec dust sealed ones now

After rob's mines pretty boring .....
280mm g60 stuff on the front with ebc green pads and turbo discs
22mm?? master cylinder
goodrige hoses allround
ebc greens on the rear - drilled rusty discs too!
no eye popping moments just a pedal thats firm and always there [=D>]
