In around a year or so i am gonna be looking to sell my car a mark3 gti golf [:^(] lol and i am looking to purcahse either a corrado or a mark1 golf cabriolet [8D].
I have only recently been intrested in a cabriolet but i just like the look of them and i am sure they are kool in the summer [8D].
So what do you guys reckon [:?:] If i was to get a corrado i would like a vr6 as in a year i am hopefully hopefully gonna have 6yrs ncb if nothing goes wrong up until then and i will be 24yrs old then so insurance should be ok for me.
When i am looking to buy i will have around £4000 maybe to spend so what you reckon [:?:] what kind of cabs are there [:?:] what are the best ones [:?:] and the same for corrado 's, any help, info, ideas, would be great chaps [:D]

Well it is relevant now tbh, i wanna plan and watch the market so i know how much i should be paying on the car, how much parts are, what insurance would be about, and so i can keep my eye out on a good deal and may by 1 before then
No harm in discussing or thinking is there

You could go for the VR6 or the VR6 or even the VR6. The 16v is under powered [:N:] , the 2.0 8v is a flat as f**k [:N:] [:N:] and the G60 will make you suicidal when the ridiculously noisy and horrible charger goes tit’s up [XXX] ......plenty of choice then. Oh and don’t bother with a Storm because they are over priced and for the posers [:V:]
I loved my VR6 for the whole of the 6 years I had it and I will buy or build another
OK being sensible now:
A mate of mine has a cab, and tbh I've always thought they were a bit hairdresser ish - and yes it does affect the performance, which is why I dont think I'd have one as my only car. Plus the look doesnt really do anything for me, it just looks like "lah di dah look at me I've got a cabriolet daaaahling" to me. Unless its a sports car like an elise or something, that doesnt look like its had its roof chopped off, but isnt cheap either.
BUT in summer, theres no beating that wind in your hair feeling, what I wasnt getting was that its not just about the look, its actually pretty damn cool driving around with no roof, its just a whole new experience and I loved that side of it!
I'd still have the corrado though, they look 1000 times better in my opinion, and the performance and handling of a vr6 corrado would far outweigh the fun factor of having no roof.
Speaking from experience here, having owned a corrado (g60), owned a vr6 engine in my rallye, and been out in my mates mk1 cab!
Oh and if you havent heard a VR6 with a free flowing exhaust and an induction kit, go and listen to one and then tell me you want a cab. I defy you to!

Unless it’s had the chains replaced. If it hasn’t then you need to knock a lump off the price as it’s a fairly labour intensive job.
Other problems with high mileage VR’s are the engine drops onto 4 or 5 cylinders when revved from cold, chains of course as they make a mess when they go, worn out valve guides and the plugs fouling up because of oil consumption, corrosion of the cylinderhead, head gasket leaking oil from the drivers side.

IMO the raddo vr6 will be hopefully hold it's value if its a good one but the down side to them is repairs panels are expensive and vr6 fuels bills are huge and if they up the tax on 2.0L you have that to worry about aswell.
Cabbies are great summer fun I love mine to pieces but again some parts are difficult to get.
I'd go for a cabbie over the raddo but thats only because I'm not overly struck on the raddos [:)]

IMO not really much use having a cab in england what with the weather we have! fine as a second car.
anyway, a 'rado is much nicer than a mkI...and a vr6, well, once you've had one everything else sounds like a diesel! [LOL]
click on the disc icon to hear a vr6 (http://www.vr6golf.co.uk/download.php?view.3)(you may have to register first tho)

I used to have a MK1 Cabriolet, it was a fantastic car, the best i have ever had. Mind you, it wasn't so nice in the rain and definately not nice on a cold winters morning! If i were to have another, it would be as a second car. I would dearly love a Corrado though...when funds allow.

Drive a Corrado VR, the noise is enough to make you want one! My mates VR is possibly one of the best handling standard cars I have driven, very nice car![:D] Keep trying to get him to swap me it for my Mk4 turbo, so far no luck [:^(]

That corrado is smart in that pic above, thanks for all of the info and advice chaps, i think i will have to have a drive in both to be honest and see what i prefer, the corrado is my fav at the moment i think but if i saw a nice cab for good money i could well be very tempted

the 'raddo is nice, but with summer just round the corner there really is only one choice [;)]
plus you learn to take advantage of any glimpse of sun for an 'al fresco' jaunt (like this morning for example), the heaters are really good, so no probs there.
p.s. cheers Jeff, I understand ur attraction to the 'raddo, but do I recall you telling me my cabby "felt like a propper GTI"?
[LOL] compared to how it was I meant [:P]

Corrado's always make sense. Remember that on the numerous trips to the garage!! I would be hard pushed to change mine now. It took some getting used to (but my MK2 was my baby!!) but now i love it to bits. The sound of the VR is something to dribble over whenever you hear it, and although you get used to it, you don't half miss it when you get in a 4 cyl!!

I had a Cab for about a year and it was great! going for a drive with the top down is fantastic, people may take the urine and some of my mates did but it was funny that they would still love to come for a drive in it [;)] as long as the hoods good it'll be fine - mine leaked and it was a b*tch but still made up for it with a couple of days 'wind in the hair' crusin'

Its a tough one, but 4K will get you a top cab. Its good to be in a position where you can afford the best examples. I always loved the Corrado, but was always put off by the rumours about it being extortionate to run. But then I had a service bill of 600 quid for the first service for my cabbie and the hood still needed doing, which would have been another 500....
Cabbies are a bit tarty, but they are my personal fave. That convertible Corrado is just plain nasty!!
Up to you, but I know what I would want again. Corrado just isn't the icon the Mk1 is....
