what kind of rev limiter is on a mk2 16v?

have got a few miles on mine now since crank regrind and it revs freely upto 7+ but where is the limiter and what does it feel / sound like when you hit it?

is it a cut in fuel like EFi or is is something mechanical

    cheers

    7200rpm

To be honest you really don't need to rev one that high, most make peak power between 6300-6500.

It's a hard cut limiter, cuts the spark electronically.

if you don't hit the rev limiter in every gear then ur not a real man.

just trying it out on the way back from the mega meet yesterday, as i have been running it in and not tried it "in anger" yet. not much happens until 4500 -5000rpm and then pulls really strongly until over 7000rpm.

Would the g/f head 4 Br manifold raise power up the revs at all?

I bought the car with these mods done so have no experience of a standard valver

Hmm, something not quite right there, a genuine 7200rpm in fifth on 195/50/15's is 143MPH .....

im on 45's but on 50's i had it show 147mph down a hill

maybe my speedo isnt correct but it sits at 130 on flat so it must be fairly true [:D]

    I've hit over 7100 in fifth on my 2y equipped mk2 16v when on 195/50 r15 tyres.

Think that it is quite to get that high on a well setup valver.

Note, it took fecking ages...

Actually I have noticed that if I go for a top speed run after a lot of town driving it won't get that high at all - seems quite a bit of m-way is in order before things get interesting... carbon build up? No idea [:s]

Think it has standard cams Gary, although i fancy this exhaust cam mod thingy off Hotgolf

only really tried it on a few dual carriageways trying to keep rustynut's C&R 1900 8v in sight, he wasted me up to about 60 mph and then i started catching up very quickly!

it feels like it's still pulling hard at 7k rpm.

I think a trip to stealth is in order sometime. :p

I was recorded at 135mph on data logging equipement at Brunters last year when my rev counter was showing just over 7500rpm on the straight...only 300rpm left to go on my car.

Perhaps a longer straight and I might have sqweezed more.

That was all on based on a well proven 200bhp valver...a 1.8 standard car I doubt would genuinely top 130 on data logging equipment

I reckon the conditions might have been against us too Ian...I recorded 133MPH, but have hit the limiter in 5th (7600) since.. [:s]

Wasnt one of Gurds mates at Brunters with a "standard" 1800 16v..accelaration was good but topped out around 120-125 IIRC...?

GVK I appreciate your wisdom as a trackday guy, but surely changing up at say 6300rpm would mean you are in a lower powerband in the next gearchange??

Surely changing at 7200 would be optimal for the next gear??

    Or have I missed something??
