just had sump off to change oil pump. I only fitted a magnetic sump plug 8 months ago, I had no idea it would get this much metal particles stuck to it! If you havent got one, do it!!! also i baffled the sump and cleaned it 12months ago and found dipstick guide bits in it, the guide hasnt been broken since but more has appeared! should all finally be out now.
yeah it does make you wonder but what can you do, I will rag it till it goes pop.. or most likely bang... could be... 1. head was just reconned so machining material? 2. my welding abit splattery in the sump baffling so some come loose? 3. from oil sandwich plate/oil radiator manufacture? 4. wearing piston bores?!!!, bearings? camshaft? all would be v v v small particles
I take it that a magnetic sump plug isn't available for the ABF ally sump? Has anyone looked at or ever used the beartrap magnetic covers that fit over the oil filter? Slightly different slant and probably a con as it probably only localises metal particles in the oil filter?
just made em up, bit of cardboard for a template, bit of angle grinding and off you go. then kept grinding the top down so the windage tray would sit in.
surely you should be able to?i thought most of the sump plugs were the same thread on vw's mk1,2,3 rado etc possibly even mk4?!?!
