As some of you know my car's undergoing a bit of a transformation - bored of tinkering with my 8v engine (although she's always served me well), I decided to give up and buy a VR6 setup from a Passat. The plan was to do this on a tight budget, but there's little point cutting corners, and with some advice from the peeps on here, I've already spent way more than intended - the extra small bit's i'll inevitably need will soon rack it up even more.

My car as she stands now, polished and waxed for the last time before I begin (phone cam pics sadly):

Always loved the retro styling of Borbet A's and the colour suits my car - the outer rims are getting polished.

The 4lamp red strip grille - looks far better, never going back again!

Clean engine bay for the age, and I'd started tarting bits up (see radiator cowel/motor)

Stripped the seats and washed the covers - fiddly, but well worth the effort - i'll get shots up of the fully cleaned interior soon.

    Butch - the in-car security:lol:

Big Bertha - the home made engine crane:p

Next plan is to remove the engine sometime over the week and prep the engine bay - the battery tray looks like it may need some minor work, and i need to drill some holes in the bulkhead to prepare for the cable shift setup. I'll also be refurbing and getting the rear mk3 Golf VR subframe with mk2 wishbones, etc ready to mount. I'll keep the thread updated with pics as I go along.

You dont need to drill holes in the bulkhead for the cable change. Fit the shifter underneath the tunnel (with some new holes for the mounting points) and route the cables over the heatshield (put some wrap round it) and over the subframe to the gearbox. Lift it out the way with a couple of cable ties.

Good luck, looking forward to seeing the transformation.

Stalling:o ....i've been sourcing parts left and right...didn't help that the MK3 VR6 subframe I bought had a huge dent in the engine mount post when it arrived here[8(] Breakers are sending a new one out for Monday.
 Would have had a black badge if someone had sent the right one....refund please!;)
