Thought I'd post a pic of the baffled sump I had made. I originally handed a mate my sump, windage tray and a pic of the schrick sump for him to copy. Although when he got round to cutting plate for realized it would be alot harder than it first looked due to the bowel shape of the std sump. I got it back last night, did a quick test fit and it fitted perfectly. It aint the prettiest sump I've ever seen but should do the job.
I didn't like the idea of fitting the windage tray and leaving out the std small plastic clip on baffle so thought this would help aviod oil starvation.
yea definitely. i could do with doing something similar on the 20v but don't fancy the 200+ fee for one
He could be on an earner there... tidy enough looking work. A new sump is 18 or 20 from http://www.vwspares.co.uk, and a couple of hours of his time. He could knock them out at 60 and be much cheaper than the competition
Funny enough the idea came up in conversation last night. He wouldn't take a penny off me as he did it on work time so was getting paid anyway.
Removed the pump and fitted the windage tray. Also sprayed the sump and fitted it back on using the longer bolts from a deisel engine to allow for the windage tray (part no> 904 234 02).
Is there enough allowance of space to allow oil out when changing engine oil ^^^ very nice and shiney though.
Has any one got a template of the baffles or know any where that does the baffles as i'm after some for my track day 16v ?
whatever you do don't buy the ones that are floating about on ebay. my mate got one for his 16v. of course the plonker thats welded it has also put to much heat into the hinge area and it's warped. the doors need to be pushed with some force to move them. it's bugger all use to anyone. best part is the prick is saying it was perfectly fine when he sent it.
Well, actually the holes were enlarged afterwards since I considered that exact same problem. Also it's possible for the oil to seep under the baffles given enough time and warm/hot oil. As for templates: Mine are long gone. I basically just did a couple of mock-ups - but granted, it was a lot easier since I had an empty block where I could mount a pump to. That made it fairly easy to trial fit. However, it would be possible to make with the engine still in the car given enough time and care.
no I grinded then sanded the welds and any splatter then washed it out thoroughly then painted the outside only in hammered silver hammerite. I'd read a few posts where people were discussing what special type of paint to use for spraying the inside and thought why bother! it's not like it's gonna rust..
