Anyone know the specs for oil pressure on a 1.8 20v Turbo...I think I have excess oil pressure to add to the list:lol:

Results in LBS sq " would be good![:D]

    Autodata says 2 bar @ 2000 rpm

    29.1 psi[:s][:?:]

yeah almost all vw's seem to be 2bar min at 2k @ 90 deg and think the highest pressure should be 7 bar at any revs

without sounding too dumb, what happens if you have too much oil pressure?

What could be the casues of this do you think? The pressure has increased after 1) Loosing the sump plug and all oil and 2) After fitting a mocal oil stat.

The stat was fitted after re filling with oil after the sump plug incident.

Someones suggested that cam bearings may have started picking up.

Blew a hose of the oil cooler this morning....I was flat out at the time.

This bloody car is really starting to chaff a little now!

my old valver sat at 1 bar at hot idle, at about 70k miles, it was still doing it with no problems at 160k miles nothing to worry about. 2 bar at 2k seems ok to me, what kind of oil and what oil temp

sorry mate this is sat at about 70 psi at 1200 rpm at literally goes so far off the scale under load like 150 psi +

Gonna take it and get the pressure checked elsewhere just incase my guage is dicky....doubt it tho!

When you pick the revs up the pressure increases to 175-180 psi

    12.5 bar!

Will check the oil pressure release valve

Sadly the engine has started smoking quite badly on idle and when you rev it also. ****er.

    far too much pressure!:(

relief vavle is part of the pump, no more than a spring in pump, I'd take it off an clean it & strip spring/valve (which I'm sure is accessable) could be swarf/silcone (off replacment sumps), or just build up of carbon if the engine was on long life servicing[:|]

That could be due to it bucketing oil into the head, and burning it through the valve stem seals? The smoking, I mean - Crispy posted just before me.....

Thanks for the ideas guys, i'll whip the pump off in the morning....in the mean time these are a few pics of the oil pump from my leon which is virtually the same...you can see the spring and ball bearing which im assuming is the relief valve. I'm thinking if I remove the pully and strip the pump apart i'll be able to have a better look at this valve. You can just picture it now....springs flying everywhere!

You will see the differences in the two pumps if I get some snaps of the one from the golf. My golf has a very low milage engine where as the leon is on about 125000 now and as you can see from the state of the pump....dirty!

When I had the sump off the golf and the leon the other day...the golf engine looked brand new...probably all that petrol washing it all down when I was driving it around over fuelling so badly before it was mapped!
