On a tuned MK1 , is the bigger throttle body a useful upgrade? I've a ported headed , bigger exhaust valves , 1mm oversize pistons , lightened/balanced bottom end , Newman fast road cam , 4-2-1 Manifold , polished/ported inlet manifold..... Will the OE Throttle body hold it back? And if the bigger one is required , what is it fitted to? Cheers.
Porsche 924s and Kjet Audis I think. You need to grind the manifold to match the throttle body too... I need to do this on my Rocco, so any more detailed info would be great.
does anyone know if the MK1 and MK2 8v K jets are the same size or is the Mk2 bigger? I also read in an American book on tuning VWs that the 8v digifant inlet manifold is better than the Kjet , i was thinking if so , to chop one up , put the throttle body on the LHS ( for the Kjet), and see what happens........ or maybe its just some mad yankee specs mixing me up.
i had a audi throttle body for one of my old GTi's, not sure which model it came off, possible an early 80 that also ran K jet, you will need to modify the inlet manifold to allow the butterfly in the TB to open properly, just port it out, the rest of it bolts up the same.
I use an audi80 item on my 2.1 8v: You will have to do a bit of grinding & porting to match the manifold to the bigger butterfly hole. Another mod is to fit a metering head from a 1600 (which i use) as apposed to the 1800 as it can transfer more fuel to the engine.
Looks pretty much like a Mk2 16v TB, in terms of the overall shape at least.... does the 16v metering head push more fuel too? I've got a spare 16v TB I'll have to dig out.... Mike...do you get the WUR modded on the Mk1 in the same way as the Kjet Valvers?
Not sure about the 16v sorry? Hmmm not sure if i heard the WUR mod being mentioned regarding the 8v?......
Hmmm I wonder... what did they do to boost the fuelling for your torque monster then? 1.6 metering head and that's it?
8v's rock! I'm willing tto play around with stuff on my one , I have a garage , no time schedule , and most importantly...infinite patience....
The MK2 16v tbody is the same size as a MK2 digifant one, and it does look bigger than the MK1 tbody I had lying around. The 16v metering head is definitly bigger than the 1.8 item, there was no way the MK1 1.8 inlet boot was fitting on my MK2 16v metering head!
Uh i just told you above? about 52-54mm for the larger butterfly (was awkward so i pushed some Taylor's measuring tape in there & measured as best i could)..
