ok i am attempting to fit an aftermarket ecu to my abf engined golf but i just cannot get a spark. now the ecu supplier insists it is my crank position sender or wheel at fault. i can see the wheel through the hole and it looks ok and it spins over with the engine. i have bought a new [pattern ] sender unit but to no avail. anyone any thoughts or anything as im stuck.

Is the ECU set up to the type of trigger wheel on your car?

Not 100% sure but I think the ABF is a 60-1 wheel where as most aftermarket ECUs require a 36-1.

I maybe wrong, but it's something worth looking into.

what ems are you running does the rev counter do anything when cranking the car over if it does then i doubt the vr sensor is naff more likely to be settings

and yes 60-2 trigger wheel is what you have are the triggers set in the ecu ??

the trigger should be set in the ecu as i specified this engine when i ordered it but perhaps not. the rev counter dosnt move as i havent connected it yet as i havent sorted where to connect it on the car.

as far as i can tell it is all wired up correctly. the dizzy does nothing but distributes the spark.

What ECU is this? Recheck wiring on 3 pin terminal of VR sender. 1 is - ve 2 (middle) is the signal and 3 is +ve. You may find you need to set up the trigger settings to run on wasted spark. Crank wheel is a 60-2 type.

What way are you looking at the sensor when numbering the pins, my sensor pins aren't numbered.

Of course. What i'm saying is that half the members that replied to this thread have been away for a while. Your question is simple though and i'm sure someone will help you. I can't because i'm using another sensor

ABF has hall effect sensor and most standalone ecu's need a vr sensor.
