not that i know of. best option is to run std wheel spacers. i would get hubcentric ones and don't go above 25mm. low offset wheels also help get the tyres 'out there'!
Surely fitting spacers like that increaces the torsional force on the tubular section of the beam and will cause a rotation which will in turn increace the negative camber of the rear wheel, which is not a good thing IMO! Also whats the extra peice of metal welded to the beam behind the shock mount, mabe it's some attempt at limiting the effect of the above.
Yes it will increase the torsional force on the beam, but as its the rear wheels the torsional force is minimal. I very much doubt it would be noticeable.
The actual torsional stresses compared to the front wheels will be much less (FWD). But granted big sticky slicks will increase the amount of torsional/bending stress on the rear beam. Personally I think it would be ok. Plus I'd be surprised if that particular rear beam wasn't strengthened in some way.
Related, though not quite spot on, but here's some interesting articulation images I found via Bildon: Rear wheel steer: One wheel bump: Undulations:
My mistake i thought we were talking about the bottom part being changed (that doesn't look as strong in the pic in 1st post), missed the spacers LOL. Should start reading more & not just looking at the pics.
Having seen the Carvells Lupo buckle its rear beam tie rods, its clear the thing is moving around a lot more than I ever imagined... in a complex manner too, not just twist and bend but all of em at the same time.
it's a design for a hatchback roadcar, and does a great job in that role at that cost.... proper racers have double wishbones Bill how far are you allowed to mod things within your regs?
reasonably.. but some conflicting regs... cant increase track aside from mentioned mods like you can by moving ball joints (x) mm, top mounts (y)mm, adding fixed spacers "up to 25mm/side" I would'nt be allowed to space the rear hubs out I dont expect, but could add fixed spacers.. (not enough rear arch room currently) wheel size and offset is free also my rims are relatively low offset and wide for ickle ibiza.. (but wider front is run my the other ibiza 9" rims)
so does it have to keep the old twist beam or could you use some fabbed rear arms? and seperate rear ARB. with minis they used to move the hinge point of the radius arms upwards, helped with pitch on acceleration
you cant move mounting points I dont think.. that said pugs have run on different setups, not as factory fitted, so its maybe a grey area? ARB has to be outside the car, no rosejoints allowed on suspension unless it came from the factory with them. weird set of regs which clearly have evolved over the years to try and keep close racing from new cars which have come in.. just waiting for the turbo's to have their wings clipped in the 1800-3000cc class now, but the 2ltr non turbo wingers.
