Picked up this little oddity yesterday.

It`s a Mk1 Cabriolet Youngline. It has similar spec to our Sportline, but, wasn`t available here.

More odd is the fact it has a Digifant engine, and, power steering!

It is a `91 model ,and, is currently Polish registered. It has done 158,000km (about 99,000 miles) and is solid, with only one small rust bubble on the tailgate.

It is mechanically sound too, just requires a new clutch, handbrake adjusted, and a wheel bearing to get it through an MOT and UK registration (H or J).

The bodywork has a few scuffs and scrapes, but, nothing major. It will get a spray eventually, but, will be used as my daily as soon as it`s MOT`d, so I can take the Mk2 of the road for some attention.

The hood is in fairly good nick too. No rips or tears, just a bit of wear on the folds, but, doesn`t leak.

All this for the bargain price of 450!! [8D]

    Cheers!

Originally I was looking for a Caddy (found one, but, got let down) as a daily, so I could start my original plan of some sort of conversion in the Mk2.

I recently found some holes in the floor of the Mk2, and the wishbones are shot. It also could do with new CVs and a new rack (I obviously abuse it too much [:$] ), so when the Cab popped up I couldn`t refuse it.

I`ll be replacing the wishbones, rack, and, CVs on the Mk2, and, welding up the holes. I`ve decided to do an engine rebuild (possibly with 2.0l bottom end), just for a bit of practice. I`ll also smooth and paint the engine bay.

When that`s done it`ll be my daily again, and I`ll sell the Cab to fund a Caddy, which will get the 2.0l 8v (plus screw charger) and become the daily. Then the Mk2 can come off the road again for it`s proper conversion (2.0T FSI or 3.2 R32 [8D])

All in all about 18 months/2 years of having one car or other in bits. My neighbours are gonna love me clogging up the carpark...[8(]

I know what you mean! I can`t count the amount of times I`ve struggled in the dark to fix something, because I need it in the morning. [8(]

They`re not BBS wheels, just something cheap. They`d look OK if they were salvagable, but they are absolutely rotten. I`ll just use them for which ever car is off the road at the time.

Only spot of rust I`ve found so far.

Corrado leather front seats and matching trimmed rear bench could do with a re-trim, but will be OK for now.

    Power steering! [8D]

Only one panel (driver`s door) needs attention, but, the whole car will be sprayed eventually.

I`ll be starting getting the car ready for MOT soon. I won`t be doing much in the way of modifying it, other than a slight supension drop (~30mm) and some wheels.

Been playing around on www.dubmodder.com trying different wheel types. I`ve narrowed it down to three so far (as well a some Audi 80 wheels in white, that a friend has). What do you think?

15" Schmidt Moderns (easy option since they are currently on the Mk2)

15" BBS RS (2" stainless rim)

13" ATS Classics (will probably need a bit more drop for these)

I would go for the ATS`s , its much lower on them and you get that oldschool look [:D]
