The Reeves' Mk2's been in for paint recently - I took a few pics when I was over at the garage, so thought I'd put them up!

It's an overdue tidy, since it had started to get a bit ratty of late.

A van tried a tin-opener job on the NSF wing late last year, so that was the catalyst.

Originally it was going to have the usual G60 arches put on it, but in the end the front metal arches were cut & raised / moved outwards on the wings. Runs widetrack, and too low, so it needs it!

Rear arches were the same - front arches grafted on higher up (OE replacement panel shown next to it - see ridge line as a guide).

New fibreglass bonnet, aerocatches and slam panel, c/w weld on tags for the 'catch pins.

Managed to find what's probably one of the first pics of the car - Club GTI National Day, Chobham (MOD) Test Track, taken out of Rabbit 37, ~ August 1996. The Mk2 was actually bought in August 1994.

One trademark cricket cap, and a set of slicks - a regular participant on the strips in those days:

^^ At this stage the Mk1 wasn't even owned!

Out of paint shop pics next :)

Love the arches, I could do with something like that myself.

Is it just the body work that's getting attention or any mechanical upgrades as well?

Ah, just the bodywork - it was just getting tatty. Mechanically it's at a spec which won't change a great deal for now I don't think.

Also needed to be kept tidier for the non-VW days it does when there's pricey machinery around.

I loved the old look, no one looked twice until it had been out on track, then there was a crowd round it

Have you got any info on the bonnet?

I've been considering trying to make my own fibreglass one but if I can pick up one for a decent price I won't go through the hassle.

I thought it was looking tired when it was outside Jabba in 2003 for months.

It was up there a while - the engine blew up at Spa in late 2002 IIRC, and it went to Jabba where it was under a tarpaulin for a while.

I think it came off eBay - I'll check though.

Old engine bay pic, circa 1999 - from Rabbit 48 - 1.8T fitted, standard top mounts still there though.

Back out of the paint shop, trim being refitted:

New slam panel also - all sundry brackets off the underside were removed with the spotweld cutter, and for neatness, the OEM holes in it were filled with discs, mig-tagged in:
