On way back from tatton last w-end i'v noticed my audi wasnt going as well as it should, and a glance towards boost gauge prooved that all is not well as the max boost turbo would hold was around 1 bar or just under

So today i went to b&q, purchased few plastic pipes and made my self blanking pipe with a tyre valve on it

Plumbed it into turbo intake pipe, connected my compressor to it and started puting some air in the system trying to pressurise it

    OMFG!!!!:o

Hissing noises from all over the place, it had that many boost leaks it wouldnt even get up to the pressure of half a bar!

Spoted 2 obvious leaks on sillicone hoses, tighned them and then found another 3 leaks!

One was sorted but the other two were traced to around injector No 4, and through the nj75 valve

Anyway, car now goes like a rocket even with those 2 leaks present[:D]

Sorry about the long post but i thought i'd share it with you boys just in case you have some boost leaks you dont know about!

    Get it checked out!

Oh yea, also, anyone knows if its common for nj75 to leak boost like that?

How much are the new ones?

I bought something like that once , nothing to do with car problems [:$]

great , cheap tool, one of the things I'd planned to make while on holiday, as well as a bump steer guage [:s]

not so good for some of the VW TDI pipes, all designed to leak :thumbd:

What was that pipe originally used for dya know? Just trying to think what type of waste would have a diameter that large (I take it you fitted that where the maf would go?)

Thanks for sharing mate, I need to do this on our Leon...another thing to try!

Just some waste pipe bits i guess

I needed 3" (76mm) diameter adaptor of some kind and this was closest thing i could assemble to do the job

Elbow is actually 68mm but the round protruding ridge has ideal diameter for my 3" samco

And yea i,v plumbed it after the maf close to turbo so i could check if nj valve was leaking

If you plumbed it before the nj valve it wouldnt detect leak as it would be under pressure from wrong side

Hope you know what i mean

All of you who is planing to make similar device make sure any joints between elbows or reducers are properly bonded using plastic weld compound.

They sell it in b&q but its held in safe behind the tills due to being powerfull solvent, guess to stop kids buying it and getting high!

itd have to be post glader really cos of a- its 2 inlets and b- nowhere to put it! but then its half pointless anyway cos its probably leaking from the box bit after the charger anyway!!! obv depending on your setup!

at least u can check the rest of your pipes and i/c.

I have a fly by wire throttle body so couldnt do jack all but to be honest any pressure lost through the head and piston rings dont concern me as i cant do nout about that

I just wanted to locate all leaks external of engine

Still got to deal with two leaks, nj valve and around injector no4

one of those is a 68mm fall pipe straght connector and the other is a 2" waste pipe elbow.

glue both surfaces and give them a quater turn to make sure they are air tight, lol!!

great idea! must nick some fittings from work!

also, put some water and washing-up liquid into a spray bottle, squirt on every joint and it will bubble if there is a leak.
