    Hello all,

my heater seems to warm up just fine but then starts blowing cold air whilst on the motorway. It also seems that some of the ducts may have come out of place as it blows towards the feet even when its on the face setting etc... could this be the problem?

    cheers
    Gill

Cold air generally means blocked bypass valves. You can either buy new ones, or replace them with copper pipe (22mm).

The misdirection could be related, but the warm air should still be going somewhere.

yep those valves are a killer, just changed them on a mates car last night - fortunate for him i hoard working ones..
however if it had been my car i would have pulled them out completely and replaced the hoses with new ones (to disguse the fact ive bodged it)

    Bobby,

    This is your dad Hank.

Do you have a set of those valves for sale?

Do let me know as I am freezing to death in my Mark II 8V.

Mate, scroll sown this page and there is a 2 page thread on bypass valves stating all you need to know :)

It is an easy fix though.

Get rid and replace with copper, i did then found out it was just the control to switch it to hot was not working so i have to manually do it by moving the diverter behind the bottom of the centre console! Lol

Your airflow direction problem is 99% likely to be due to one of the small plastic cogs dropping off the bottom of the air flow box - remove your centre console and have a look under the plastic housing. If it's dropped off, bond it back in place.

anyone know where I can get replacement valves from apart from VAG. GSF have stopped tdoing them. Also is it safe to bypass them or will it put the matrix at strain?
