Is it worth getting poly bushes for the engine mounts.

what are the advantages? and disadvantages?

    Thanks

    benefits - less engine movement

down side - more noise, and can cause stress fracture on the body

So its probably best to use standard?

How does less engine movement help?

less engine movement gives a better gear change on a mk1, and also feels nice when driven hard, less clunking and banging, plus if you have a 4 brance manfold less chnace it will fracture,

i have made up rated rear mounts for mk1 golfs in the past
they work well but are not fun on a road car

i got a old mount cut all the rubber off it
then burned off and blasted any rubber left

then used a bonding coat on the metal parts

then put them in the mould i made i then use a two pac rubber

i used belzona but that was too hard
i did get some softer rubber but cant remember what it was

the place i worked at that time did a lot of this so it was free to we at that time

if you are going to do it, do them all, from the front to the back of the car.

pointless, replacing just some of the parts on the car, you'll just transfer the movement along.

Ive not got round to doing the side engine mounts yet, but they will be done soon, I ahve also got the full kit from gsf inc a set of arb mounts from flo flex the same as the ones you have now. so i think I have got every mount on the car... now I just need the time to do them all....but i agreee dont just do a couple do them all.

Tim Stiles' book reckons the rear poly mounts tend to break - he recommends a Mk1 diesel rear mount instead.

GSF no longer sell a diesel mount its 1 mount fits all. I got one fitted it and did 0 miles but then got the polly set so thought id give it ago, if it brakes ill stick the gsf mount back in but for now it seems to be holding up well, inc being abused on the strip this weekend,

Went to GSF and they only had a poly bush kit for the whole car. Can you just get a poly bushes for the engine and gearbox mounts?

Is there any where else i could get them?
    Thanks

yep ebays the best bet, the bugpack ones are the same as the gsf one, and they ahve now done a days sprinting too and are still like new. tbh though id think about the gsf kit as with the club discount its only 60 or so and will do all the bushes on the car bar the anti roll bars which can be go from flolex for only 28 delivered. I have slowly started doing the bushes but have already noiced an improvement.

I have now done a fair number of road miles with mine and the only thing I have noticed is the idles a little more harsh, but the car is bloody stiff and theirs no sound deadening, I sit on a metal seat with very little padding and I have a lumpy cam, so its to be expected

speak to floflex as they are making lots of mk1 mounts now, so chances are they will be making engine ones too.
