mot is booked for end of next week, so well done for getting insurance but i still think ill be driving mine first :p

Plus, if i crash i only have myself giving me a telling off. You will have to answer to your mum - and explain where all her 20yrs no claims have gone

make sure you get off your mums insurance as soon as you can though as it will only end up costing you more in the long run

Is that some sort of special insurance for teenagers?

    Enjoy it anyway, young'un. :)

yeah you have your head screwed on, I was thinking more like if you forgot to renew your disc retaining screw or something and your wheel falls off etc

    Have to agree there.

Being in your Mum`s insurance means you won`t be building up your own no-claims.

Best to fork out the extra now to insure it yourself, then watch you premiums come down every (claim free) year.

When you hit 21 with (hopefully) 4 years no-claims, you`ll see a significant drop. 25 is the magic number though...my premium halved!

If you were to stay on your Mum`s until you were 21, then insured it yourself, you`d in all likelyhood end up paying more, than you are now.

Also, taking the worst case scenario, and you have to make a claim. If the insurers find out your Mum isn`t the `main driver` then they could void your policy...

You`ve always struck me as being sensible, and you say you won`t be tear-arsing around (and I don`t doubt that), but the fact is you are still new to the road, so the risk is there regardless of speed.

I don`t mean to sound all doom and gloom, just realistic. Good luck and happy motoring!

You're going to annoyed about this.

They quote that premium on the basis of you. It's known as fronting to insurance companies and you'll actually get similar premiums for yourself if you shop around, her NCB makes very little difference now.

My insurance went down a massive 20 when I hit 25yrs old. What a huge anti-climax that was.

They'll quote him as that anyway most of the time.

It is fronting, and it's actually illegal to some extent. Insurers hate it. You won't get any NCB from it (whatever any company tell you, no other company will take it).

Also Comprehensive is a waste of time, they'd never give you a proper pay out on your GTi whatever it's real value is, you're better off with Third Party Fire and Theft.

Yeah, think i was similar as it was already so low by that point

Quite often its only a few pounds more though, so unless huge savings may as well have it.

At the OPs age it's not, and especially not on something with badge stigma like a GTi.
