    I have a 1996 Mk3 16v ABF.

I have recently acquired a polished and ported head part number 027 103 373E which I believe is from a kr engine up to 1988.

Will this fit on my abf block without modifications?

I plan to run it with standard abf cams for the moment.

Apart from whether this will fit on my block without modifications I need to know the following:

Will I need to use the standard ABF metal head gasket?
What cam cover gasket will I need (planning to use the abf cam cover)
Anything else I need to be aware of?

    Thanks

    Paul

Use ABF Head Gasket & ABF Timing belt

The ABF Cam cover won't fit u will need KR rocker cover gaskets too and timing belt tensioner.

Heres a 2.0L 16V Engine which i built for CrazyNick from MK1 Owners forum for his White MK1 Project, to fund my 2.1L 16V Project.

    Heres the 2.0L ABF. :)

I'll post pix on the 2.1L 16V Engine Build.

Shave down the dowels on the back of the block by about 3-5mm, because if the head's been skimmed heavily, it might foul on the dowels and not seal properly. Block all the holes in the block to make sure you don't get metal filings in it, obviously.

Other than that... ^^ What Brookster Said^^

    Thanks chaps, all good info.

    Another couple of questions:

Can I use the later tensioner if I change the stud in the head to the later type?

Can I re-use my ABF (1996) cam followers or are they differant in the early KR head?

    Cheers

    Paul

Isn't the ABF tensioner about 2 or 3 times the price?

The cam followers are all the same I think, in terms of fitment, although some are allegedly lighter than others. Makes sense if you're using the ABF cams.

I've got one of each tensioners new lying about and I'm led to believethe later one is easier to use / set the tension.

Thanks for the info on the followers.

yeah all you need to fit the late tensioner is to swap on the late type stud :)

the same height issues from abf block + abf head will exist with abf block + kr head, the height difference is at the block not the head.
