Continuing the weigh-in from the crank weights thread, here's a few for the sumps. All weights in kgs.

Thanks to infinity again for his brief loan of the ABF & 1.8T sumps!

That last sump is from an internal water pump engine.

Has anyone carefully checked the depth of the old style block sumps?
Mixing different size oil pumps and pickup pipes may be an issue with either too much or too little clearance from the bottom of the sump to the pickup pipe.
Have come across a couple of different length dipsticks in the past.
Might be applicable to anyone having oil pressure issues Chris.;)

Sorry, brain in neutral on the internal/external waterpump - now corrected.

On sump depths, all measurable, but from which point to give the best comparison?

Dipstick length differences here from last Summer:

StuMc mentioned recently here that the AHU diesel sump is actually shallower the other day. Any insight?

To measure the depth I would just put a straight edge across the gasket face and measure to the bottom of the inside of the sump to where the pickup pipe sits.

Engines would need the sump off and measure from the gasket face to the bottom of pickup pipe.

If this was done on a std engine it should give the normal clearance then any hybrid setup could be checked against these figures.

Mk4 golfs are always smacking there sumps off the ground even when not slammed, and being alloy, crack, so maybe this is the reason there are differing depths on these engines.

Fine - I can get 220mm short block and 236mm tall block done easily with my stock of bits.

That AHU is a Vento - which I read as akin to my Passat 1Z. I'm intrigued to know what's in the Vento, pump-wise.
