Yes the superior 2E bracket could become the next big thing Chris. Did you get scales since I last was on here?
The only thing worth mentioning is the 2E top right hole doesn't line up on KR blocks & previous. I think the serpentine and 2E are interchangeable on all of 6A/9A/2E/AGG/ABF/1Z etc etc? I've had the scales for ages - they were bought to sort flywheel weights for the Golf GTI Championship regs originally - but I've been sorting out various car spares recently hence lots of threads appearing!
Yes the later blocks have one of the holes in a different place, but the brackets from 1.9 diesel and 2.0 petrol intermediate shaft blocks from what I have seen can be swapped around. Various alternators to weigh too.
Alternator weights, all with pulleys. ABF 90A - 5.7kg ABF 70A - 5.3kg 2E 70A - 5.3kg 8V 65A - 4.9kg 8V 55A - 4.8kg
Basically all this measuring stuff proves that if you have a good dump and pee before you go on track it will not make a blind bit of difference. I suspect in the end it will be proved that 8V is the lightest and the best. This cosworth itb 8V inlet manifold next to me weighs 1057.2 grammes if your interested.
I suppose you have to save weight to make up for the extra mass of the crud 16v head and 2 cams compared to the superflyweight 8v, every little helps mr eyre.
The 8v masif are happy to do our bit and assist the weight handicapped 16v / 20v chumps out in a bid to level the playing field. I draw the line with the vr6 though! I have an article from during the 2nd world war on the design of various aero piston engines from rolls royce that puts some of these modern engines to shame with there crud designs. With the 8v we have a good compact kidney shaped combustion chamber with very little valve shrouding. Then some punk anus designer says in the way of progress, lets make a huge badly shaped combustion chamber and then fit vertical exhaust valves shrouded by the chamber walls and manage to screw up the inlet port as an added bonus, then throw 2 heavy cams, some sprockets and a chain on top of that and call it progress!
I've just weighed my cat if that's any help. She's 4.54kg, and doesn't like being plonked on the scales.
