The thread about VW purchasing Alfa made me think.
Alfa must be in trouble for a possible sale.
    Why are they in trouble?
Cos. the cars that they build at present are crap.
What should they build to get out of trouble?

    This!

1965 GTA G 4. In 1965, it cost 3000. The most expensive car they then produced.

    For comparrison:

    A 1200 Beetle was 650. A Porsche 911 was 3750. A Jag E Type 2000. An Austin Healey 3000 1100. A Saab Sport 1300.

Lancia Delta Integrale, without a shadow of a doubt.

Give it VW reliability and build quality and it'd be a WINNER!

Would you want the FF 4WD version. GKN built a few, when I worked on the FF Capris at Laycocks!

    Dare to be different..............:o

My college lecturer used to have a brown one with one spotlight in the middle of the grill. I used to drive it on occasions. It was named "the chocolate coloured fanny magnet"

alfa build great cars now, it's just the reliability and servicing is poor, people being quoted 1500 for cambelt changes, and having to take whole engines out to change starter motors etc.

166 v6 looks like a cheap family motor, until it falls apart

Agreed. As long as they don't change any parts, except the brakes!

one or two may need adjustment to met crash test regs, and all the other regs from the last 40 years

but they are only allowed to build them as long as BMW make some of these

When I read the title of the thread, Lancia Delta Integrale popped straight in my head. Gotta agree with Funky Diver on this.

But then I love my golf, so I'm not so sure I would rush out to buy another car. I would put that money I had into a better engine in my Golf.

I wouldn't want to push the current duel charge engine too far, much rather twin charged 16V FSI

Stag would also be on my list with the Delta.

    also a softspot for :

ps. This one has the wood dash, and steering wheel, from the Lusso version, for some reason? The lusso weighed about 100 kg more than the lihjtweight!

Daved, did you have spagehtti for tea last night? Only one mention of a Saab in the first post and now it is all red cars. :o

The reason you would need them to start making all these cars again, is because they were so badly made they have rusted back to the elements in the periodic table from which they were originally created.

You got to like that Allegro though, the bonnet gaps on it are a mile better than the above Lancia for a start! And even if the Allergy had bad gaps, the eye is distracted some what by that long legged factory fitted bonnet emblem. ;)

    Danny me loverly boyo.

This is the only FWD car I have ever driven, with snap-oversteer, in a straight line![xx(]

It actually oversteered more than a Daf 55 Marathon, on Dunlop M&S MkIIs, with a 75 bhp Gordini motor, and swing axles!
