as above, does anyone run without a dumpvalve on a 1.8t? im running a t28 garrett turbo and wasn't gonna bother running a dumpvalve, now i dont want to hear everyones reasons as to why a dumpvalve must be run, i just want to hear of those that do run without and if theres any issues

I`ve never heard of anyone running without one. Probably because they all know the `issues` they`d have if they didn`t... ;)

i know of a few cossies and a pulsar near me that run decent amounts of boost (25psi) with no ill effects, just wondered if anyone has removed it on a 20v.... maybe i'll be the first ;)

There's been a discussion about this on the Subaru Legacy forum about exactly this.

The answer is don't. A BOV or recirc valve is there to release the pressure that's built up instantly when you shut off the throttle butterfly. If you don't allow this pressure to escape, then you stall the turbo, i.e. stop it turning and risk damaging the bearings as well as breaking vanes.

Why do you want to do this?

You can run without, if the location of your compressor outlet is very near to the intake throttle eg 1.2 TSI Polo/Golf engine with inlet manifold water to air charge cooler. But with a side or front mounted I/C and all the associated piping you develop a a reletively large column of air that has no where to go when the throttle is shut, thus causing the compressor wheel to run into surge and put considerable stress on the CHRA bearings and shaft. So my answer on a typical 1.8T is do run some sort of dump valve.
