Well if my Inters 11 deadline is to be met I suppose I better get this party started... and after much hype and a near rumbling by our own CSI CGTI (Cheers Chris) here we go, buckle up... After the challenge of building The Third I wanted to get my teeth into something a little rarer & simpler and return to my first love of boot-tasticness The Jetta. After reading a classified ad on the other forum and having serious thoughs about what the fourth should be I decided to go down and see Graham (Jettamk2coupe) in Worcestershire with regard to buying the Jetta Coupe he'd been advertising. Graham had been fending off people offering three bags of conkers and swops for much lesser cars for a little while and was almost ready to withdraw the car from sale. On one of the coldest snow bound days of December Ady and I trekked down with the trailer and had a good hour long inspection of the car, a deal was done and the car loaded. My new Jade Green Met. Mk2 Jetta Coupe. Whats he gonna do with it I hear you ask??? This is the Plan, as she is LHD I'll be converting her to RHD then due to my track car being re-built i'm going to fit the ABF with carbs, suspension and brakes... she'll get a full Leather Recaro interior, a trick set of alloys and a fresh coat of Jade metalic inside, outside and where the sun don't shine. Think of it as a Jetta 16v Highline... Not GTI, more Deluxe sleeper. Oh yeah I nearly forgot, she'll get CE2 electrics and the RHD conversion will include a Corrado Dash. VW's Coupe dash in VW's forgotten Coupe. On with the works... A few days after getting the Coupe I found a Corrado for the right money and trekked of again, this time north of Leeds on Christmas Eve. My Christmas break consisted of a little merryment and a lot of Rado breaking. My new dash. The Rado would also give up the CE2 loom and everything to go with it. There wasn't much left when i'd finished. The month between buying and now has been taken up part working on Ady's Monza Valver and part hunting down parts and travelling the coultry to get them. We also moved into our new workshop today. Back on the trailer. Into a new home All safe, the car will now be stripped and will go in the paint shop on March 28th for a month, that gives me 8 weeks to do the fab and mock-up then 7 weeks to re-build after paint to get to Inters. Hop on board and hold tight. PAB
Awwww, i love 2 door jetta's This is going to be extra special too no doulbt or is that "Exshhtra shhpeshall for shure" with it being Dutch Either way,i look forward to see it
dont see many 2 door jettas, your last build was very entertaining and seeing the result at inters made me realise how run of the mill my cars are, looking forward to this
Looking forward to reading the build on this one, your last one & the attention to detail was excellent.
PAH!!! Chump Foose I say!!! It's about time you revealed the truth Phil, iwas beginning to think you'd hung up the spanners.
Early quarter light windows so I'm assuming it's d plate or older? Looks a good solid car though. You must be a sucker for punishment taking on yet another full on project
Hey Phil, I thought the CSI work was done, but now you've put up pics of the car at collection. Stourport on Severn, it has to be? Buckling up, and looking forward to the build
I agree, it's the worst cover car i've ever seen, in fact it makes me poorly every time I sit in it or see it.........
I guess somebody has to say it.... "May the fourth be with you" to help you get it ready for Inters BTW, if it was mine, I'd swap all the track bits into the 2 door shell...
looks like its going to be a nice build.what carbs are you using?planning something similar for mine.
so pab what you going to do with your collection of cars perhaps raffle the third of to cgti members lol and yes the forth is strong in this one
Me too, thought that the 4th was going to be a 2dr Jetta of some kind, and with a quick turnaround, i immediately thought it would be a reshell of the track car into a 2dr coupe. Would just make sense to me. Still, cant wait for what you have planned. Im sure it will be tops.
I've been waiting for this to emerge ever since I heard you were having it. It's a properly straight car and totally solid. Glad it found a proper home, looking forward to the next few months.
