So, Im having a bit of trouble trying to find out what my engine is out off.
Main reason this has come up is im trying to order a new oil filter, Not sure what one i need as there is 2 and it goes on engine number. Firstly i cant find my engine number! It says its on the drivers side under the small lip at the top. I cannot see it at all!

The other thing is that i have been told the engine came out of a 95 Corrado, But its a 2.8. Did you get a corrado 2.8 in the early days? It has a 2.9 inlet according to the spec.

A couple of pics to help.

If your AAA engine is a pre August 95, you will run filter element +O ring part number 021115562. This means all M2.7 Dizzy and Coil pack M2.9.1 controlled engines. The 50 Corrado ABV engine code falls into this category.
If your engine is a later post August 95 AAA code from #176 890 onwards or 3A Passat and 1H Golf 3 Syncro ABV from # 019 554 onwards, with a M3.8.1 controlled engine, then your will share the filter element with the V5 AGZ code part # 021115562A.

    Regards.

Cheers Toyo, I will have to find that number then!
Is that picture showing the right place or do they put it lower or in a corner somewhere?

Block as per Danny's picture. It should have a barcode on the rocker cover on the pulley side.
This has engine # and build date but it looks yours has long disappeared!

Your does loom early or pre AAA ~176 889 which would mean the you need part# 021115562.

    Found it!

If you look at this picture you can see a little bit of paint flaking away.

Turns out the block has been painted black and painted over the number!
Scratched away the rest of it and i have my engine number:thumbup:

    It starts with AAA0015**

    A pretty early engine then!
GSF and AVS say "To MY 12.95 To Eng. No. 176 889"

So i need the early filter:)
