Battery tray needs de-rusting as battery was a problem and cuased corrosion, but that should be no real deal.
May pop the engine out and repaint whole bay.

Don't like the C-pillar swage line either - might see about smoothing that out.

I'd really like one of the run-out R-Line Citi Golfs.......which has a 1,8T under the hood as stock.
Loads of VAG parts bins raided to make it........like Skoda Fabia dash, Mk5 Golf Gti shifter.....etc!

The Citi has been manufactured for 25 years.........in SA - until 2009 !

I knew they did a "factory mk1 20vt" you never hear anything about these but i remember a mag feature about it (mk1 boys copy/order engine mounts from SA now lol)

Sorry for being slightly off topic [:$]

I also agree with the comments about the C pillar swage lines, got to be done to last for it to be worth the effott, but the car looks fresh as a daisy still

 i think the 20v was a 100 model special, as i can not find anything on ETKA in the SA citi option for anything that 20v related. my thought were to see if the downpipe was available but nothing.

i haven't seen anything on ETKA that looks similar to the aftermarket mounts for the installation of a 20v into a mk1. gearbox pictured on there is 020 cable clutch. anything that might be of interest has no PN[8(]

This is a shot from under the bonnet of the later caddy from SA.......essentially what the 1.3 Citi looks like.
    Gearbox is deffo 020.

Had a look at the tailgate..........the rear glass isn't heated!
    No rear wiper.
    No front arch liners (plastic).
This is all as "stock" !
    Talk about your 'pauper' spec!

Just found the carb mounting flange split which is kinda typical (I recall my series 1 Mk1 having same issue).
The carb is a Keihin ?.......weird!
The carb flang is actually same as old Audi 80/100 for the carb 1.8 engine.

This 1.3 block is actually a "big block" with external water pump, rad water tapping off middle of block/head........all just like 1.8 Gti Mk1/2!!

I have a feeling i'll be pulling this engine out and dropping in my spare 1.8 PB block.......along with ECU, fuel injection etc etc etc !!
I must have enough bits to do the conversion at least once over!

The engine fitted to this citi is a 1.3 litre but weirdly a big-block like the 1.6 / 1.8.

This is good news as the engine mounts would suit another big block of larger capacity, which would drop right in.

    Mulling over options, I have a stock 8v 1.8, Tsr 8v 2.0 or bam 20vT.

Im still gonna run the Bam in my mk2; the stock 8v 1.8 isnt going to have enough oomph, and the Tsr engine is up for sale.

    So I decided on something unusual.....a 20v n/a 1.8.

Picking up the engine this week....been modded to bring up the power.
Big valve head. and some interesting mods!
