Hey, I'm in the middle of a 2.0l 8v conversion on my mk2 golf. Done it all but when i start it, it only lasts for a few seconds and found it was only running on one piston.
After hours of testing and scratching of heads we finally put it down to the distributor. At the minute it's got the mk3 one but i'm guessing this isn't the right one. Does anyone know what to do???!!! [:s]

You need to use a 2E distributor i think.

Dont think the MK3 one is compatible, but i may be completely wrong

Mk3 one is compatible if it is the same type as the Mk3 2E one (passat 2l, early Mk3 8v gti, etc..._). Take off the dizzy cap and see if the trigger wheel has one window in it, or 4. I'd bet it has one, whereas you need one with 4. The window is what gives you the spark - hence why you would only be getting the spark on one cylinder, if you have a single-window trigger wheel.

Yes this one does have only one window, the 2.0l engine is a '96 AGG so would make sense! [:D] Cheers for the help, hopefully it'll be running soon and will post piccies! [:^:]

Yup... AGG dizzy just has one sender pole, 2E & PB, etc have 4.

You either need a 2E dizzy or an adaptor ring for the PB one.
