I have just installed an AGG bottom end (32k miles) and a rebuilt, flowed PB head into my Mk2. I am using Synta Silver oil at present. Does anyone have a similar setup, and if so, which oil are you using? I am considering switching to a fully synthetic oil (e.g. Synta Gold) and wonder if this will provide any long term benefits, or if it will prove to be to thin. I change the oil every 4-5 months. To avoid any oil being sucked into the combustion chambers / inlet manifold the crankcase breather vents straight to atmosphere.

    Thanks for any advice.

I haver pretty much the same set up, (2E not and AGG though) same mileage and only the front block breather vents to the air. I run the silver stuff and its fine! Dont think you'll get much benefit from fully synthetic but you never know, changin it as regularly as you do is a good idea.

im running a 2.1 8v & after melting a piston i decided to come off semi-synthetic & back to regular oil as we think it may have been getting past my rings.

havent had any trouble 17k later (crosses fingers & everything else).

Anybody know what temperature the oil should be at during normal running, just serviced mine and it seems to be getting hotter than before the service ?
Running Synta 10/40 Silver, level is OK.

Oil should be anywhere between 80-100C, anything considerably above or below this I would consider to be abnormal.
