Does it even fit on the standard manifold?

it comes with an adaptor plate to fit the standard manifold! Found a bit about em on the corado forum and apparently the company who made them only had 3 left and they all sold a few months back for near 200 each [8-}]
I luckily found it on the pvw classifieds for 50.only prob is i need to mount the throttle switch for the isv [:s]

Fitting large single TB to a 16V K Jet is about as good as an Eckotec Valve.

There is no performance gain from fitting a bigger single TB, all it will do is bollox your MPG, throttle response and driving quality.

the claims for that single TB are pretty impressive, i will reserve judgement until we see the stealthed results ;)

I'd guess that TB has about 12% more area than the standard unit.

I've said this over and over again, unless you've overbored an engine, dramatically improved VE at the upper end of the rpm or increased the working rpm range how can it need more air [:s]

If you suggest that the original TB is restrictive ask yourself why VW would limit the performance of their own engine on what was their top of the range performance model [:s]

Finally for the cynics, the twin flap design is far more costly to design and manufacture. In an industry where saving pence per car is seen as a gain, why do it?

the manufactures of the big TB claimed 12% increase in power IIRC

but as you say golden, i think it'll only make more power if the engine needs more air than the stock TB supplies

I agree that the TB is by no means the most restrictive part of the system, and that gains will be marginal, but...

The answer to both questions is driveability. What do you think is going to sell more cars, an engine that makes 2-3 bhp more but is a shit to drive in traffic, or one the wife can use? ;) Some of the TB's i've got even have a wedge bolted to the smaller butterfly, presumably to smooth transition off idle even further

But you are completely forgetting the simple fact that when people buy tuning stuff, if its bigger or looks better it MUST be better.....

Ok well it looks cool, does that count?? There was dyno plots for this tb that came with them apperently proving a big hike in bhp but ive always been a sceptic.
Il give it a go anyway and report back.

Nope, its no good I cant leave it.

Thank you for trying to teach me in laymans terms but I think Ill carry on considering VE to be the actual filling of a cylinder compared to the theoretical maximum filled volume at a given pressure.

What the hell has VW theoretically limiting top end performance of a 16V got to do with book spec fuel economy? This week will be testing the new Golf 16V and seeing what the driving around foot to the floor MPG will be.

Finally, do you even know what pumping losses are?
