my front tyres are wearing thin, and are crap in this weather (BF goodrich tourers), are A539's good for the golf? i had a pair on my old mini and they seemed OK.

nah, dont do it! great in the dry, pants in the wet, IMO. I have them on my rallye at the moment, and theres only so much that 4wd can make up for :o

Toyo proxes are good all rounders but they wear out realy quick.

The Yoko's wear quickly too. Go for the Toyo's.

I had A539's on my Golf 8v, very good in the dry, but quite poor in the wet though. I have got Yokohama AVS on mine now and they aren't much better.

I will be having Goodyear F1's next.

I had A539's on my golf. They were good in the dry but didnt give me much confidence in the wet. I replace them with Toyo Poroxes which are great in the wet, and cheaper too. Try www.mytyres.net

I had A539s on my Nk2 1.3, I thought they were ok but it was only 1.3 so no real test of the tyres. [:$]

I used to have yokos in 195/45/15 on my mk4 polo. they were rubbish in the wet & only lasted 5 months! (on a 60bhp car FFS).

I'll never buy them again. I put some Hancook Ventus tyres on after those, much better all round tyre lasted a lot longer & were cheaper (40 each delivered).

Try ww.raceandroad.com for Avon ZV1's V shaped tread pattern which not only looks nice but makes for good alround grip wet ot dry.

Them Avon's are pish, hated them with a passion! No confidence in the wet at all. Never had Yoko's always run the G40 on toyos, will be getting some Goodyear F1 for a wee change next and see how i like them!

Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD-3's are the daddies!

A539's are great in dry -- crap in wet

    BFGoodrich Profiler G's are crap

Toyo Proxes are good... but not as good as Eagles.

    All based on experience

deffo agree bout the toyo/eagle F1 in wet conditions

id say the toyos are better for pullin away hard in the dry but the f1's out handle the toyos in the wet.
