What differences are there between a Mk1 1.3 GF engine and the Polo GT 3F engine? (the obvious fueling and compression differences aside...) Are the cylinder heads the same? Would the inlet manifold from a 3F go onto a GF? Bit of a weird one but could you get K-Jet to work on a GF (or even 3F)?
as far as I know the Mk1 never got the hydraulic heads (ie the later type engines with the different oil pump and 3 rocker cover bolts) and the GT was in the mk3 polo which was, i'm fairly certain, a hydro engine. Also I'm not sure the manifolds will swap from one to the other, I wouldnt be surprised if they did though. To run either as a K-jet you'd need to make/mod a maniold to hold the injectors in the inlet ports as the Polo was a Digi, you could use the digi injection mind. I stand to be corrected on all of the above though... anyone? Edited by: Unknown
Would the hydraulic head be better to have than the rocker fingers? What advantages/disadvantages are there, or is it more to do with technology moving on and hydro heads being the next step up? Would the hydraulic heads be able to handle more power than the rocker finger type heads found in Mk1 Golf's? If someone could verify that the 3F Inlet manifold goes onto the GF head, that would be a huge help!
I'm sure the 3f manifold will fit the gf. The change to hydraulic heads was to less the maintenance required; solid lifters need to be shimmed to account for wear whereas hydraulic lifters don't need to be. Which engine do you have to start with?

Good for high engine speeds? or was the technology back then not like it is now with modern engines needing to convert to solid lifters for muchos revs? What makes up the K-Jet fueling on Mk1 Golf's? Would the standard ignition on the GF be ok to use, just?
I'm trying to think if the GF uses the same head as the HH Polo, which is favoured in Polo tuning circles. A lumpier bumpstick and new valve springs see good power at high rpm. k-jet would probably be more hassle than it's worth imho, I guess you don't suggest GT injection as you only have the inlet manifold so I'd suggest a weber; the direct replacement Polo 1300 one comes jetted for the 75bhp GK engine so will fuel it well. My 1985 Golf2 with HK 55bhp 1300 goes surprisingly well, that's totally std with a restrictive exhaust setup as well. Get the twin downpipe on yours matched up to a gti system and that should help. You may have the twin downpipe anyway, I can't remember.
I was thinking in terms of a bodged together 1.3 8v K-Jet Turbo with this engine I've taken out of my Driver. Just an idea really.
