Rather than take over the other thread where this subject came up i though i'd start another. vw racing pic that started it off: click link to company that supplies a diy kit: Frost pictures i found on scooby net topic link from the scoobynet topic: electroflock "To give it the sporting feel of one of its racing cars, RML has employed a technique called flocking to all plastic surfaces. These are covered with glue that is given a negative charge. Tiny fibres are positively charged and stick to it. They are then literally shaved to give the surface a velvety feel. The dashboard, door panels and even centre console are covered in this material." Edited by: steve r
I like the look of it but to be honest I don't really understand what advantage it offers to a race car (this being the motorsport section and all)... It's not like it saves weight or adds power or anything, its only job just seems to be to look nice.
I was wantin it on the MK3 dash, never did it. Onpy because if it went wrong the dash isnt that easily replaceable cos its not standard.
I hoped flock would die out after the 70's It does look good on a dash, I see frost has come to the rescue again, their a great company something could plan long term
Just found this in the latest Practical Performance Car: www.suffolkflockingservices.co.uk 01473 328 300 40 to 130 for more complicated dashes [Top magazine BTW Down to earth, affordable mods etc. Always find myself buying it for some reason, where TRC & Retro gets put back on the shelf.]
Anyone done a mk2 dash? Got a few ideas for inside my car when I get the cage (yep, on about that again..) Another link found of PF forum. http://www.flockcoatings.co.uk/ And http://www.rallyusedparts.co.uk/tradepages/cbc.cfm Central blast cleaning, Banbury. Edited by: GVK
There was a company at Combe Rally Action Day doing flocking as i remember Velly's mate bringing his cossie dashboard along to drop off. Wonder how it turned out?
