Ive been offered a rear-ended 2L 8-valve Mk3 Golf GTI. The motor is a low mileage non-smokey lump, it really shifts apparently!

I currently have an 1800 8V carb motor from a Mk2 Golf driver in my Mk1, anyone know how hard the conversion to the 2L 8V would be? I know i will need to change parts of the wiring loom etc to accept the fuel injection, but are there any other known issues? (exhaust manifold?). I've been told it should all fit fine, but after looking around the Mk3 it looks like some of the engine mounts are in different places (the mount just below the cambelt cover for example), even though it should just 'drop in' ? [:s] Also will i need the fuel tank and related bits from the Mk3?

    Any ideas?

The engine will fit woith the mk1 mounts. I've got a mk3 type block in
my mk1 as it happens (mk2 head though). The injection, if its as simple
as the mk2 digifant kit, wont need too much more than a live feed to
the ECU. You'll need all the induction pipes and the airflow meter and
    airbox.

The fuel tank will need a lift pump and level sender from a late Mk2
scirocco (85 onwards) and a pressure pump of some description, unless
you can source a mk1 GTI tank and pump (explanations of some of this is
    in the FAQ)

I'm not sure if the mk1 GTI exhaust manifold will fit the MK3 head though, I suspect it will but cam someone confirm?

yes the exhaust manifold will fit. if you want a 4 branch do it while you're doing the engine swap. lot less hassle

if you use an audi manifold you can use the complete mk3 engine AND mk3 head while still retaining K-Jet
have it in my rocco and also have a spare audi inlet for k-jet and for digifant to have the airbox on the passenger side
