Are they the 7mm or the 8mm ones? Would be handy to have a list of engine numbers and what size they use if anyone has any info. Kent cams do them, arround the same price i think. Edited by: Dub Nutta
Found a yank site with them on offer @ $122 (40% off RRP) Part number for my 9A engine is 104-6004 according to co-rd sport.
do you realise you need the rods resized or whatever they call it?? the extra torque puts em out of round, otherwise id have a set on the g60
I fitted some to an M3 race car last week, simple bolt-in swap. Only trouble with the mk2 Golf bolts is that they're a 2 piece kit, a stud thats interference fit into the rod and a nut to secure the cap. Should be able to fit them in situ?
I have them on my 8v, like GVK says simple swap...wasnt aware of any mod needed not sure bout doing them in situ tho, it is an interefence fit into the rod, i had difficulty fitting them with the engine in pieces in my shed! lol
assuming its the same as a g60 you can tap them out with a punch, theyre not super tight.leave one bolt tight and tap the other out and so on
some kids in the USA say get the rods alligne honed, but i spoke to stealth and some other places and they said they dont bother. when i did mine up on my crank, as a test, the rod could still spin fine, not stiff at all. you can use ARP bolts designed for a ford engine, and grind a tiny bit off the head apparently, and they are cheaper then a set for the VW, and u get 8 insted of 4. i would check on vortex for the part numbers and such.
I`ve read you need to have the conrod checked for round after installing the bolts as the bottom half can move slightly with the arp`s installed, then again what you read and you normally need to do are 2 different matters. I`d just fit and forget.
It's mainly the yanks that have the rods resized, because they use the bolts for the Ford 302 engine, which aren't an exact fit......
I've got ARP rod bolts etc in my little motor when it was stripped lightened and balanced for added peace of mind at nearly 8000 RPM.............it's soooooo much smoother when balanced properly. Well worth it IMO Cheers Justin and Adrian at TSR Ian
ARP's were fitted to my old Jetta (which stills runs around now) - not aware AutoT modded the rods but thats not to say he did'nt.
bought a bunch of arp stuff earlier this year from the states but only just realised that the rod bolts are for a feckin g60. did anyone ever find a supplier that carries these 104-6004 bolts in stock? sensible prices would also be a bonus...
I didn't bother in the end, I had hotgolf fit a 0.89 5th gear instead so it didn't hit the limiter in top every 5 mins
Raceware Rod Bolts in mine now, courtesy of Mr Eyre! Fitted expertly by Rradogolfman! Bit of a must when the motor goes to 7.5K+
