Having just received a call from Elephant telling me that they wouldn't cover me if I was to put a 2L block in my mk2, just wondering where you guys get your insurance from?

From what I can see now, I have a couple of options...

One is to do the conversion and not inform them of it. Make out as if I bought the car like it. I may have shot myself in the foot though if I'm to do this, as i'd imagine my request for a quote will be on their records!? [:s]

The other is to cancel my policy and go with someone else. Problem with this is that I'm 3 months from the end of my current policy so i'd loose this years no claims. I think?! [:s]

    Any suggestions?

this is what i'd do personally

I'd put the 2l block in, and drive for the 3 months til the policy ends. Then try other companies. I know its dodgy, but its what i'd do.

Driving the car after converting it to 2.0 without their approval will invalidate your insurance. You would effectively be driving without any, and if you dont have an accident this is all well and good, but if you do..................

But now would I have shot myself in the foot by just asking for a quote from elephant for a 2L bottom end? I mean, will it be on their records?

my insurance went down when I fitted the 2.0 block and a whole lot of
other mods to my old mk2... I also moved from Cornwall to London where
you'd have thought it would have been more expensive. I did have a
limited mileage but nothing desperate. HIC by the way.

Although an insurance assesor may not spot the 2L bottom end, Im gonna be a good boy and declare it all.

Got a quote from HIC for 700 with all mods declared but limited milage. Pretty happy with that!

cost me an extra 20 quid to change from a 1.8 to 2l, that was the admin charge to change a piece of paper! [:x]

they didnt have a clue what a x-flow head was, lol, its insured with an agreed value, everything has been declared and there was no real increase in premium, to them its just a modded 8v, which of course it is! [:D]

    2.0L bottom end

Just started a multi car policy with my V6 4motion...currently insuring the 8v mk2 with the 2.0l bottom end for 290.00 fully comp...and yes i am only 24....thats with no NCD as it has been out on my V6 fuel eater.

Again....dont tell them as they both look the same ...if anything grind the 2.0 off the block...then no-one will ever no

rang HIC recently to get a quote for putting a 2.0 16v lump in mine, the quote they came back with was actually 100 cheaper than what I'm currently paying with brentacre, still have to phone brentacre though to see what they say.

Heard lots of stories about HIC being a mare to deal with though if you have a claim, so dont really want to go with them.
