    Lo All,

Here are some pics of an autocavan brake conversion for anyone who is interested. It improves the brake pedal feel on the mk1 a bit by completely replacing the linkages.

Wow, old bit of kit. How long has that been fitted? 10 years? GSF bought out Autocavan didnt they, then proceeded to stop selling all the trick bits.

I've got an old VW Motoring mag somewhere from when these first came out and the head guy from Autocavan is showing you how it fits and they compare it against a standard setup. God knows where that mag is now as I've moved house since I last saw it, won't have chucked it out though!

I'm sure they also used to do remote servo kits for Mk1 Polo's :)

Wow! Interesting to actually see pics of it.

So how much of a difference does it actually make then?

    Lo all,

With regard to how better it is, I am unsure as I've only really ever known the brake setup on the mk2 before getting this mk1, and then it wasn't very long before I ripped the engine out to put something better in. From my limited experience it is massively better and as good as the mk2's I've driven, although the mk2 setup isn't the best!

Also the mk1 setup can be improved by keeping the linkage adjusted to take the slack up, so if you do have an unadjusted setup have a fiddle and you might be able to improve the brake pedal.

It's not on the road as you can tell from the picture and I bought it with it fitted, it must have been done along time ago as I can't find a receipt for it and the history goes back quite a way.

An alternative to this that I have heard about but never seen is a twin master cylinder setup that moves all of the brake setup to the correct side and manages to fit it in as no servo is used. Although going from the mk2 polo that I had that wasn't servo assisted it would probably make the brake pedal very stiff.

    Cheers,

    Chris

Well its fitted (not as easy as it looks) had to do quite a bit of fettling retreading and cutting down of the adjustor bar (between pedal and linkage) but works a treat:thumbup:
