Soo drive home last night (40 miles) got near my house, temp went way up water light came on... Temp went all way to the top.

Having a look tonight in garage, temp all way to top again. No leaks I can see, holding water, no air pockets that I can tell.. fan kicks in but only when halfway.

Top rad hose ouchy hot. Bottom one was cold then warmed up and not ouchy hot but still quite warm all other pipes hot to the touch.

Unplugged temp sender. Revs go up a little bit.. weird or not.

Can't really see what's up tbh unplug all sensors etc engine temp still of the scale, let the car cool down in garage for couple of house flick ignition on temp goes right up and water light on without even starting car..

Does this sound like a dodgy temp sender. Or thermostat? It am I missing something.. what does a temp sensor do when it fails?

    Any help appreciated

Went out to garage this morning. Cars sat out there all night.. flicked ignition on.. temp gauge went all the way max, came back to midway then back to full with no engine running.. dodgy sensor maybe?

I think it likely to be a sensor but could be a faulty gauge. I would think a faulty sensor would either stop reading or go full scale. I could be wrong as I have never experienced that fault.

Problem solved, the black sensor had gone.. popped to MK2 spares (handy as I don't live very far away) picked up another one popped it in gauge back to normal.. result!.
