Hi all, I have fitted a pair of Powerflex bushes PFF85-203 to a pair of VW Golf GTi MK2 front wishbones. The problem I have can be seen in the attatched photos. The new Febi Bilstien wishbone, has a very poor fitment with the bush. Where as the old wishbone has perfect fitment. I have been told that the wishbone design has changed slightly over the years and even VW OEM will be the same as this Febi? (I can't verify this as VW don't have any in stock and ill have to pay for one just to measure it ). Is the above true? Do you think it would be safe to use the poor fitting bush/wishbone? has anyone run one like this? Any advice or experiance in this please let me know. Thanks.
i think its quite common that the wishbones from AVS do not accept polybushes properly because the wishbones are thinner. youll find plenty if you search. cant you get a VW wishbone from a breaker?
Yeah, i have a couple i can get hold off, now it's the problem of trying to get the poly bush out, I don't think it will go without being damaged. Looks like ill have to spend money on another bush set! Damn annoying.
are the avs wishbones new? if not id happily take an angle grinder to them and carefully cut the polys out. tempted? or prefer to try and mallet them through the way they went in?
mine are like the modified ones, the bushes dont fit *quite* perfectly, but it runs fine. dont forget the bushes have metal inserts through them so its impossible for it to sit differently.
I fitted some rallydesign bushes to OEM VW bones and a pair of febis from AVS, neither were a problem for me?
Yeah it is. I spoke to powerflex today... Richgit maybe you need to check yours for whare? Update, iv sourced an OEM VAG wishbone so ill use that, and I found the biggest press ever (might be slight exageration) and managed to pope out the bush. For future refernce don't use AVS Febi wishbones they are thinner and awful.
Fitted fine, by the time the wishbones were back in the car there was no play in the bush. Replacing the wishbones and rear beam mounts with Powerflex makes a hell of a difference.
