My Best friend Adi bought this Valver just over a month ago and decided to give it a work over so we both took two weeks off work and these are some of the results...... Just a nice & simple strip down and update of all the mechanical parts.... Before..
More bits... Hope you like it, in total we had two weeks of evening work and two full on weeks off from our real jobs. The car is now Adi's daly drive and is as tight as a drum, just awsome Mk2s rule!! Simple spec:- 1987 Monza Valver Poly bushed 280mm brakes Front & rear wide track G60 Steels Toyo T1R tyres Goodridge hoses Koni Adjustables Eibach springs Eibach ARBs G60 top mounts Vibratechnics front engine mount Quick shift And every ball joint, wheel bearing brake pipe etc, etc, etc replaced.
Good work there, nice looking mk2 It's amazing how much better they drive when all the worn 17+yr old suspension/steering components and bushes are replaced.
Good work, nice to see effort going into a good bit of restoration as opposed to avoiding the issues and spending tons on silly crystal lights and other pointless tat. Bet its a beaty to drive now Shame you took all the red stripes off though [:^(]
Thank you all for your interest, been hard work but the drive is awsome. Just started to prep an ABF 2.0 16v for it and the BBSs are on the way!! It was a really good example to do the work too, really good for 22 yrs old, last owner since 1995. Only done 124k miles.
Tremendous effort on the resto - wish i had the space to do such a complete job. Mine still has the all the original bushes and handles like a sack of crap! My opinion is the original wheel/trim and grille look nicer too but each to thier own, i bet it drives spot on. I have a D plate monza must be one of the first i reckon as it was right at the start of the D registrations. All the best D
Small up date, the ABF conversion is gatering momentum, most of the bits are in place to start soon so the usual photos will follow. This was yesterday, the car has now got its red trim back on the grille and looks loads better for it.
Spent the day with Adi prep-in & servicing the ABF ready to install next weekend. Before After... had the full works Cambelt & Tensioner etc... Will get the bits built up this week and then the install should go well.
Spent the evening putting the rest of the bits on the front of the engine, along with a new cam belt cover. Just need a new belt for the alternator and then its ready to put in. Roll on friday...
Couldn't wait for the weekend so we decided to start the conversion tonoght. Stripped the front off the car and set to removing all the bits from the KR. Engine soon out, took about 90mins to pull it out, got everything marked up for easy re connection. The stripped the KR of all the bits we needed for the transplant. Used a combination of ABF & KR coolant pipes, swopped the KR oil cooler as its a new one, along with the clutch, flywheel and the four senders on the end of the head for the water temps, also fitted an oil presseure sender for the new guages, had to put the low pressure switch at the back to allow the gauge sender to fit. Refitted the gearbox & starter motor so its ready to put back in tomorrow night. Got the bulkhead to modify, the AFR sender to fit into the exhaust & the guage to mount and a small bracket to make to allow the KR external water rail to bolt up properly to the cylinder head.
