I'm fitting an ABF into my Mk2 16v and it has come to the point to start re-attaching everything.
Can somebody please tell me the torque setting for:

Pressure plate to Crankshaft (6 bolts), and
Flywheel to Pressure plate (9 bolts)

    Thanks.

Don't forget that the pressure plate to crankshaft bolts need to be renewed. They're torqued and then require a 90 or 180 degree further rotation. Will see if I can dig out the torque... or someone else will soon.

    For 020 clutch

    Pressure plate to crankshaft bolts
    Stage 1 = 45lb/ft or 60Nm
    Stage 2 = angle tighten a further 90deg

Flywheel to pressure plate = 15lb/ft or 20Nm

    Cheers,

I've already got new bolts for both as i've done a bit of research on here before starting.

    Another question,

I'm using an ABF with a steel KR sump, what dipstick shall i use, the ABF or the KR?

    Thanks.

I've re-used these bolts loads of times. No issues as yet [:D] The Haynes Manuals I've got just give a straight torque figure for them too - exact figure depends on whether they're Flanged or plain bolts.

bentley and elsawin say they're stretch. either way id rather not risk the flywheel flywheel coming loose and shooting thru into the cabin

Glad i spotted this thread i'll be doing this soon enough, do the bolts come with new clutch kit or is it something need to buy on its own, where from ??

Also have you got any pic's or advice that i should do before trying to bolt the mk2 gearbox to the ABF ??

was thinking of painting it but should i be doing any kind of refurb on bushes or seels before bolting things together ?

sachs clutch kits come with new bolts plus the correct spline grease

i would replace the input shaft seal, as well as the pushrod bush and seal. gsf do the seals except the input shaft one if its a 16v or 2.0 8v box as its a little bigger, vw still sell this one though and its pretty cheap

ABF Alternator set up with K-Jet

I'm sure i read on here that you can keep the ABF alternator set up with self adjusting arm with the K-Jet manifolds but today i have encountered a problem.

When i try to fit the KR water outlet to the front of the head (3 bolts) the outlet pointing downwards hits the alternator tensioner adjusting spring.

Is there a way around this or shall i just fit the orginal stuff?

    Thanks.

I didnt have this problem on mine, but if it hits all you can do is swap back to mk2 16v stuff or fit the earlier mk3 1.8-2.0 8v non-a/c setup which doesn't have the tensioner wheel and instead has a massive spring under the alternator. it sits much lower than the later stuff so tons of room

You could just fit the ABF plastic water flange that is angled differently, would mean you may need to alter the top rad hose but would mean you could keep the ABF serpentine belt setup. They did cost about 7.00 from VW.

Edit might not fit the KR manifold tho'
