JORAN is a bone stock Golf Mk2 8v that was hinted at here, in the latter part of the post.

This vehcle was purchased from logans run, who was the first owner of 20 years.

Unfortunately this car had a minor disagreement ( no fault of the owner) with a Volvo at a roundabout and JORAN was retired until a certain Toyotecwerke found out it was for sale.

A transaction took place and JORAN was transported to the good guys as Garage Streamline for myself to further inspect the damage and migrate nesscessry parts from my 3A 8v.

This was very quickly returned to its former glory.

Once this was complete the car was checked for road worthiness to get through the MOT which was due.
Before the MOT, 16v hubs, 256 brakes discs/callipers and BBS RAs were swapped from the old 8v to this one so that the original steelie 14 inch wheels could be put on my old 3A 8v for it to be rolled around the garage premises.
I was very fortunate that someone just happened to drop off some smoked 16v rear lights at the garage. As these could fit any of the Japanese vehicles they were handed to JORAN.

With everything ready the car was given a wash and my old stereo was transferred and then driven to Yaashik Motors in Wembley, where all my cars receive their MOT.

And it passed  no problem.

It was noticed that on the way to the test centre, pullaways were very jerky and the car smoked heavily.
The jerkiness was caused by this...

The AFM to throttle hose, which was repaired with a rubber repair kit. .
The smoke was due to sticky oil control rings. By running the engine in a sort of "dyno breaking in" way this smoke eventually disappeared before the MOT and gas check was performed without issue.

    Next steps:
    • Run car up on the dyno just as is (VW factory serviced)
    • Remove intake snorkel and see if there is any benefit in torque ( with toyotec optimise)
    • Run G test to back up the above.
    • Use for a week and access the drive fuel economy etc.

    Then fit this,
    [IMG]
    :lol::lol:

and experience real torque as per the PFFMV...

Pictures of the car before and after.

Its obvious to me that my very 'scene' more door mk2 impressed eddie so much that he went out and bought one for himself and in 8v format

Dyno testing and acceleration evaluation. ap20-03-2012

Since the mpg exercise the JORAN has been regularly achieving 50 mpg.
It did so on today's journey.

So how does this this 'Eco' 8v fair when the throttle was presed to the metal?

To assess the WOT performance, JORAN was taken to Garage Streamline and tested on their dyno.

Two stable runs later and the profiles acquired are shown below.

    113.7bhp @ 5100rpm and 124lbft @ 3800 rpm, which is pretty much a typical 8v dyno plot:thumbup:

To translate these dyno measurements to real life, the vehicle was tested for acceleration.
The location for the test the same as used in Ben S' experiments and adhered to these special conditions for G tech testing:

    • The vehicle had two occupants.
    • ~1/4 tank for fuel.
    • 2nd gear chosen.
    • Tyres checked and pressurised to 32 psi.
    • G meter - G tech pro.

Once complete the Gs profile looked like this

    0.24g max at 3800 rpm

As a comparison the acceleration was compared to another vehicle tested under similar conditions and that was a 1988 Golf Mk2 GTi 16v (KR)

We can see how the G plots are near identical to the torque plots acquired at the chassis rolls.

With JORAN pronounced 'healthy and STD', it was unstrapped from the test bed and returned to ECO duties [:D].

Stay tuned, stay optimised. Thanks for reading ;)

I don't think this 8v has been Toyo-tweaked at all

This is just showing how a standard Mk2 performs in terms of engine output and fuel economy
