Nice car. I love the early GTI's and this one looks smart.

Any more information on it's history/your plans for it?

    Which interior is fitted?

Im in Ireland its a genuine Irish gti, reg in june 84, completly restored by myself over the last 5 years, got a full respray in mars red, it was a demo model when new, my plans are to drive it on the weekends during the summer :) the door cards came from a rallye and the seats from a mk1. Id shudder to think how much this stands me but anyway happy days

Love the early mars red GTI's, always wanted one but ended up with too many alpine whites!

    Looks a great car.

Not tempted to fit the original interior and wheels and have it totally OE?

No i hate pslots so even if i had bought it from new they would never be on it as for the original interior i also have that but its tired and the leather really livend it up in my opinion thanks for the comments i got the head unit in Germany just to think of the amount of them that i binned over the years[:^(]

To me it's all still original as the parts are all VAG.

The leather seats where probably available on the options list at the time anyway :-)

I'm no Pslot lover either. BBS all day long for me.
I'm glad you haven't gone for a Zender body kit. :-)

is there leather steering wheel available in that early design?
Yours appears to be standard rubber/plastic one??

A leather one would look and feel great and finish off the interior. I've never seen a leather version of that early GTI wheel. Do they exist?

No i always wanted it to look like it came out of the showroom so id never put a bodykit on it,the steering wheel i dont know i have only ever seen this one.I am now waiting on a full carpet set for the boot from newton commercial as mine is gone baldy on the arches and the floor carpet has a small hole in it so there is no point in letting the car down when ive gone this far

a poor carpet always lets down an interior.
You'll be made up when the new carpet is in place. Is your glass in good condition? poor glass can ruin the appearance too.
Careful you don't get too obsessed tho :-)

I don't think leather was an option on really early GTI's. I could be wrong though, ditto regards the leather wheel as well

It's crying out for the deep GTi front splitter too ;)

Im pretty sure the late MK1 gti campaign model came with a leather wheel and unless im mistaken its the same wheel as the early MK2's.
