I thought it was high time we had a dedicated thread for everyone to share images of cool retro Golf MK2 and period accessories from the 1980's. :)

There has been a recent surge of interest in retro bodystyling kits on the forum for a while now. I myself have joined the ranks with a Votex kitted car and there a a few others out there.

Get a few pictures of your retro kitted Golf, along with any cool or rare period accessories and brochures you own/find online so we can all share the love

To give things a kick here are a few from my archive......

I'd love to be able to put a pic of my GTi Engineering golf with it's Zender kit and Zender sports wheels but sadly the Zender kit is still being repaired and my car just has the wheels on....maybe it'll get finished this summer.

That's badged up as a Kamei X1 bodykit but has slight differences to the one I have seen in the ads.

Note the different front skirt. Even where it joins the arch is different.

I'm going to either upset everyone or win cheers of applause with my view that they all look really dated and that actually nothing looks better than the original VW standard small and big bumper styles with the best period wheels....

Thanks for posting this up. Nice to see a kitted late small bumper. First time I have liked Comp TH's. Satin black really works on them. Awesome car!

You haven't upset me at all. Everyone has a personal opinion on style. I love these because I grew up around them. Far too many GTI's are clones of an Edition 38 car for my liking and the formula of coilovers, BBS wheels and big bumpers - while obviously a working pattern - leaves me a bit cold. If everything is the same how do we appreciate individual cars.

These cars are individual, a marker to their age and hark back to a differnet era of modifying. Like time capsules.

and it wasnt just the Golfs that got the same treatment

"VW Power and Style" by Ian Kuan is a great book to own if you like looking at bodykitted VWs but beware, theres plenty of sick bucket kits alongside the classics!
