I am in South London regularly and have never seen that great looking MK2 you have there.

Unless you were the chap that the GS boys were telling me about who came to pick up a MK2 bonnet?

Forgive me if it is the wrong person :)

I can see the clock for the CPU and next to it is what would be a flash DIP28 EEPROM.
I would have thought the look up tables for fuel mixture and ignition will be stored on there. This may be corrupted. You can buy flash chips but I am sure your friend already knows this.

While I understand the appeal of keeping the car with the 'original' components by some, and enjoy the lengths folk will go to retain such components, such an item as an engine controller should be replaced with a more modern system, for which there will be more support.

Keep us posted if a solution has been found for this Kstar

^^ Thanks for sharing that information. This will enable some of us to make our own cables and even have a go with this [strikethrough]ancient [/strikethrough] 'retro' piggy back controller.

Typically the eeprom is on back order, I ordered it on the 13th March from one of our suppliers, still waiting...

New eeprom finally arrived and is soldered in, reconnected the kstar unit into the car and tried to connect with the laptop, it asked for a password, I typed in the original password and its not recognised. Tried all the ones above but no joy.

The plan now is to copy the data off the original eeprom onto the new and see what happens...

If that gets the same result you may need to find another same model with an eeprom you know the password to copy the data from, not much help but i guess you thought of that anyway.

I could log into the unit before with the CV33 password, and read and write to it. It just wasn't storing the maps when power was cut indicating a problem with the non volatile memory, so I am hoping that if we can read the original eeprom, then copy the data onto the new, then it may just work... If not then I will look again.

Haven't seen a Kstar unit for sale for a while and I have been looking...

Just in case this plan doesn't work, what are my best options for different management?

I have been looking and there seems to be loads of different systems out there!

I need to be able to control ignition and the four extra fuel injectors, but I am not opposed to having more control. I would want to be able to make adjustments on the fly.

I also have an Aquamist water injection setup that I am still debating wether to put back on the car, I know that some of these systems would control this too.
