Just wondering how hard it is to remove and change the link rods and bushes on my Mk4 1.8T ?

They are squeaking and creaking really bad atm. I want to try and buy a genuine set or a Febi set hopefully.

I've already had new genuine bushes pressed into the wishbones so at least these are done.

    Any help would be great.

    Cheers Richard.

Also is it worth changing the old plastic type drop link for the newer metal versions ?

it's only one bolt ever side that bolts into the subframe as the clamps hook in
the bush should just slide out i did them one side at a time
if you have problems clamping them back down you can use longer bolts

i kept the plastic links on my tdi and not had any problems with them it's not lowered though
i would say it's up to you

    Nice one cheers Mushy

I wonder if its the links that are creaking or the bushes ? Once it stops raining i'll have to get underneath and have a look.

hows you top mounts and it's bearings
if you ever go to change the top mounts get LCR ones they are a lot stronger

They were checked when i had it MOT'd. They seemed to be ok, but might need changing ?

My Mk4 has hit 100,000 now, so im sure these little things will need changing very soon.

My wishbone bushes were all perished, so they were replaced with genuine items from VW. I kept the original wishbones too, as i didn't want to but after market ones with the bushes pressed it.

I'll give the car a good going over i think Mushy

Anything else to look for / or change with this kind of milage ?

    Cheers.

i changed the tdi to polly bushs all round but used r32 ones on the 4motion
the tdi has 99k on the clock i changed all the bushs at about 50k but they where gone long before that

if your keeping oem bushs the r32 rear wishbone bush is a good up grade

Im about to change my ARB bushes with Poly ones..... I have changed for OE ones before... nice and easy, but how do you put the poly ones on? mine have no split in them and I can see how I am going to get them over the flared end of the ARB?
