So we need to build a track car ..one that will work to represent the the business and be a bit of a classic .. so a Golf MK1 with a 1.8T and why not make it Berg cup style.. so the old MK1 that stood alone in a garden for some years waiting for some love was purchased last week and so it begins .. work starts 3 x chaps 40 mins
Welcome to the forum, Forge motorsport i presume? Can't wait to see progress of this if any of your other builds are to go by!
Hi Mat-mk3, Yes we are Forge Motorsport. I have alot more pics etc to post up today as we are a reasonable way through the project.
The golf has been fully stripped, and all non essential metal work has been cut out. Dipping this week
The Golf is now back from being stripped and to describe how it looks in one word "amazing". When it left us just over 2 weeks ago we weren't sure what to expect when it came back. Was there going to be more holes than metal, would we have to start all over again. The answer is no, the shell is in great condition for its age few issues but nothing an order from VW Heritage wont sort out. Bit of rust in the back panel, was easier to remove it and replace with an OEM unit
After Finding an AGU 1.8t engine from a Mk4 golf, we set out to rip the engine apart. Here's the Progress so far:
Here's a few pictures of the paint shop where the MK1 is being painted. Ultimate Paint and Chip Repairs http://www.ultimatep...prepairs.co.uk/ These Guys are highly skilled and there finish is excellent.
The car came back late yesterday afternoon with a thin coating of etch primer so it doesn't rust. Next step is fabrication of the roll cage...
