I am offering for sale my Mark 2 Golf GTI which has been prepared for use on tarmac special stage rallies. It could easily be converted for track day use or sprint / hill climb. The car is fully road legal the MOT expires on 30th July 2014 and is currently SORN'd. I have owned this car for 18 years and have spent considerably more on its building and development than the asking price. I, and the car, have received many class awards and top 10 finishes on tarmac rallies, along with Championship awards in an earlier guise. The current specification is as follows; Body / Chassis: Fully seam welded shell with Safety Devices weld in multi point cage, including front triangulation. Front and rear sub-frames have also been seam welded for strength. The bodywork does has a few blemishes from its 18 year competition life so it is not in 'showroom condition' but has no rust and it is clean and straight. Custom made (Brise Fabrications) aluminium fuel tank, baffled and foam filled with a capacity of approximately 11 gallons. All fuel, brake and oil lines are in Aeroquip style hose and joints. Electrically heated laminated windscreen operated via timer relay from a steering wheel push button, with all other windows in polycarbonate plastic (bronze tint). It has a fibreglass bonnet, single wiper conversion and an aluminium roof air vent. Aluminium lamp pod with 4 Cibie Virage (clear lens) lamps each with 100w bulbs. Brise 120 amp alternator. Engine: 2 litre 16v, gas flowed head, solid lifters, REC valves, Arias forged pistons, Arrow steel rods, lightened and balanced crank, billet steel flywheel (Bildon Motorsport), Jenvey throttle bodies and TVM inlet manifolds, along with an alloy baffled sump and Brise starter motor which has recently been overhauled. Powerspeed custom exhaust manifold and single box exhaust system (fully meets RAC MSA noise regulations). It has a full DTA engine management system with a current rev limit of 8100 rpm that produces 201.6 bhp (182 bhp at the wheels) and 155.1 lbft of torque at 5764 rpm. Davies Craig electric water pump, custom 3-core aluminium radiator (Brise Fabrications) and electric fan. Transmission: 6 speed close ratio Sadev (ST75-14) sequential gearbox with 4.78 crown wheel and plate LSD, allowing a top speed of 119.3 mph, on current set up. 210mm metallic 6 paddle clutch (unsprung) and up rated cover, with internal hydraulic release bearing. Custom made (Sadev) unbreakable drive shafts, GKN F2 outer CVs, modified hubs and up rated wheel studs (modified Escort Gp4 on front). Brakes & Suspension: Front: 298.5mm x 31.8mm vented discs with Wilwood GNIII 6 pot callipers, using Hawk HB102.800 pads. Bias pedal box with internal adjusting knob. LEDA fully adjustable coil over shocks (springs 8 x 450). Wishbones are custom made with rose joint ends allowing infinite adjustment. Electro-hydraulic (Citroen Saxo) power steering utilising a VW left hand drive steering rack. Rear: standard GTI rear disc, fitted with wheel studs, and pad set up. Hydraulic and cable handbrake. LEDA fully adjustable coil over shocks (springs 9 x 425). All brake lines in braided hose and bulkhead fixings. Wheels: Compomotive MO 7x15, fitted with a selection, (R02, X04, R08, R12 & X22) some of which are new, of Dunlop CR311 moulded slicks. There is a total of 16 wheels. Safety: Plumbed in AFFF electrically operated fire extinguisher system, OMP fibreglass bucket seats with a legal FIA badge (although out of date they are still acceptable as the car has an old MSA log book). FIA badged 6-point harnesss with a 2016 expiry date, electrically operated FIA emergency cut out switch, new (purchased February 2013) Odyssey Extreme 25 battery mounted behind driver seat, Brantz Laser 3 trip computer with twin wheel sensors. Engine aluminium sump guard. Custom built lightweight wiring harness. Obviously I have the V5 document as well as a current RAC MSA Log book. I will consider serious offers in the region of 16,250 for this superb example, which does include a spares package. A 14' Woodford tilt-bed trailer is also available to a prospective purchaser subject to separate sale, note this sale does not include the trailer. Please no time wasters or dreamers, this is a serious piece of kit. Further photos of the car can be supplied upon request and any questions will be answered. Potential purchasers can contact me via email on vwrally@blueyonder.co.uk or via this forum. For any prospective purchasers based in Europe, we are only 40 minutes from the Channel Tunnel. Below are some images of the car in action on some recent events, and these are supplied courtesy of M&H Photography of Maidstone. Thanks for looking.
For anyone interested the car will be on show at the Apex Festival held at Lydden Hill Race Circuit, Kent, Saturday 18 May.
Due to the usual time wasters that you get when advertising, the car is still for sale. It is now on eBay as well for anyone interested in owning it. Click the following link to access; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111096880766

Tarmac Rally Car It's been some 9 months since I first posted the 'For Sale' notice for my Mk2 rally car and I'm surprised I have not yet sold it. I have touted it around other for sale sites as well as this forum and what a surprise I've had the potential (wishful) scammers and some time wasters but still no sale, so consider this as a 'bump'. The only things that have changed over this time is the MSA rule (in their infinite wisdom ) amendment that it now requires new seats and that it is SORN'd. There is a spares package to go with the car and the full list can be supplied upon request (it's rather too long to include in the posting). If you require any other photos of the car or of specific items, just ask and I'll get them to you. Also any questions and I'll get back to you. I know what you are thinking that 16,250 is a lot of money for an old Mk2 Golf but I came across some old paperwork for just the engine and gearbox and that totalled just short of 17,500. So come on and grab yourself a bargain. Viewing is welcomed just contact me via the forum or the email address in the original advert. Treat yourself to a nice christmas present.
Well its back on eBay as well for the Christmas period, hopefully this time it will sell. Here's a link that takes you direct to it. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111243733514? Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all on the forum.
ONCE IN A LIFETIME, NEVER TO BE REPEATED OFFER Final reduction, price reduced to 15,500 (thanks to the MSA rules change) just fit your new seats and you're ready to go. Contact by the usual methods.
Well it's back on eBay once again at the original price although I am open to sensible offers as mentioned in #10. It is advertised elsewhere and I seem to attract time wasters like moths to a light bulb but I suppose its the nature of the beast, all the right noises are made right up to the moment payment is mentioned. But I will persevere, one of the cars has to go. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111312681198
Despite my attempts to sell the Golf there have been no takers yet, so I thought I'd bump the posting one more time on the off chance. If anyone is interested in looking at the car then it will be at the Apex Festival next week at Lydden Hill
Have you tried advertising on 'Car and Classic'? Yours will look very cheap compared to some of the cars in the 'FIA' section (not that many of them are FIA competition cars!). And there are lots of European interest on there. Being LHD will help massively! http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/cat/21/ It's a total bargain with that spec... and gearbox!
Thanks for the info Sam, it's not one of those that I'd tried but it has been on 7 'specialist' websites with no success. I thought it was a bargain at that price but everyone else thinks dfferent. As I think I've now sold the other project I may now just go and use it and have some fun.
You may regret selling it at that price anyway Terry. 'Car and Classic' sits high on Google searches, and the buyers/sellers tend to be nice - on the occasions I have used it. Fingers crossed either way.
Saw this car in the metal at Apex and it is a great of kit and a bargain for the components fitted to it. Good luck on the sale Terry.
