Has anyone fitted a Mk4 Polo 6N 1.6L 16v Engine in a Mk2 Golf before?

I'm curious to see if anyone has attempted the conversion.

It would be the 1.6L 16v Engine from a Mk4 Polo. Engine code ARC

Has anyone attempted it? I am curious to do it in my GL.

Here is a picture of the engine:

    Cheers!

That looks like a 1.4 AFH engine. (unless you have used an AFH head & built a hybrid of the two.

Polo 1.6 16V looks like this:

Yes it has been done before as the engine is from the same family as the EA111 found fitted to the 1.3 Golf 2.
More popular with the lighter MK1 crowd though.

I have one in my mk1.

For an mk2 just use the 1.3 engines motor/gearbox-mounts.
The driversside motormount of the 1.3 fits directly but you can only use 2 bolts to fix it to the motor instead of the 3 bolt for the standard ARC mount.

And Ben S is right :)

Does anyone have a thread of someone that has fitted in their car? Mk1 or Mk2? Knarf, do you have a thread?

Also, I know that this is more of a Golf specific forum, but what really attracts me to the engine is the valve cover of what you say to be the 1.4L engine that says DOHC 16V. Could I put that valve cover on the 1.6L or should I just install the head into the 1.6L?

The thread is in my signature :) But it's in dutch and i don't have very much pictures of the engine in.
I could make some for you if you want though.

You can't just put the valve cover of the AFH on the ARC. But you can switch the head. There are some threads here about that. I'm planning to do the same conversion on my ARC, beause the AFH-head is more suitable for high revs. i just can't find an AFH engine for a normal price here in Holland though :(

Yes, if you could help me with some engine pictures that would be excellent!

Ahh okay, that is good news. So I guess I will be doing the same as I like the look of the 1.4L head. So 1.4L head on a 1.6L block. I will look for a thread about it on here.

I went looking to buy 1.3 Engine mounts and I found them. But I'm curious to know how they work out to mount the engine perfectly? How is this possible? Is it because of the size of the engine?

    Here are the pics,

the only interesting motormount is on the right side:

you can see here the third hole can't be used:

This is the original mount of the ARC:

    those holes line up:

    and a complete picture:

you may have to make some bracket for you alternator though as this was integrated in the original motormount of the ARC.
(The alternator on mine is not original but a small japanese one for weight saving)

also on an mk1 you have to make an gearboxmount if you want to use a 5-speed gearbox but with an mk2 you can just use one from an mk2 1.3 5-speed
