Ok, so you have an abundance of (as Chris says) anecdotal evidence to support the theory, but the question I have asked (a couple of times now) is not for "evidence" that it's "true", but rather how you percieve the "evidence"; that is to say, you are seeing patterns that "align" with birth dates. What do you think is happening? What mechanism is there in place that causes celestial bodies to influence personality traits?

You can show me all the "evidence" you like, and maybe I would agree that there might be a discernable pattern, but you still can't answer what is going on exactly to create the patterns you see/present as "evidence"...that's the crux of my side of the debate... ;)

    Mine does.
But it really depends on how long it was pointed at the bedroom window before they noticed.

Still trying to find the peer review showing finding of astrology but been busy.

Of course it's a coincidence, there are something like 3 people born every second, that's almost 26000 per day so it stands to reason that out of those 26000 you're going to have everything from Hanibal Lecter to Mother Teresa so quite a significant proportion will fit into any generalised stereotype.

Something I find intriguing is how it is acceptable to stereotype people according to when they were born but not where they were born, for example we can say anyone born in August is arguementitive (made up) but we can't say anyone born in Ireland is thick even though both comments are inherently untrue

The bit in blue is the crux of it from my side. What's real, not why

But the "discrenable pattern" is coincidental, as I stated above due to the sheer number of people born under each sign, & the so called traits being quite generalised, it stands to reason that a fair proportion of streotypes are correct by sheer chance

If that were true, we would have equal numbers of people representing each star sign posting on the thread, but we don't ;)

Oh, and you keep posting! #gemini

Well, I never thought that this thread would get past the first page..

Not directly related but interesting nonetheless, take a look at The Unbelievers. A couple of fairly famous scientists travelling the world having open discussions about science and reason vs. [shall we say] "less scientific" beliefs.

I'd love to know the science behind it. Something must affect the brain at the time of birth, gravitational? Maybe a seasonal thing? But that's still about the position of the Sun and Moon. Life couldn't exist without both of them, so we surely must be affected? The sun affects my mood. Just like some prefer winter.

Found an interesting page. Ref tabloid horoscopes and science.

Ah, well - my birthday is December 21st, not sure what sort of weirdo that makes me.
It seems that even the Astrologists can't agree which sign I am!

My brother and youngest son are too!
No disrespect Wez, does this sum you up!

    Aries (March 21-April 20)

Aries people are dynamic, quick, original, energetic, innovative
leaders who are downright disgusting to be around. These are the
first people bought joggers, and actually jogged in them. They are
the people who read the text in sex manuals. And try to follow it
    by the numbers.

Aries are honest and direct, and quick to find a motel room when
the boss's wife is horny. This is the guy who gets the woman into
the bedroom with a promise of 10 inches and 3 times, and turns out
to have 3 inches, but does it 10 times.

The Aries affair usually gets pretty kinky, because with that
limber body and great stamina, they get bored with "the same old
thing" every night. From woman-on-top to shetland-pony-on-top is
not a long leap for an Aries.
